Former 4-Star PF Reid Travis Transfers to Kentucky from Stanford

Reid Travis will join the Kentucky Wildcats as a graduate transfer, the forward announced Wednesday.

Travis spent the past four seasons with the Stanford Cardinal. He was the team's leading scorer (19.5 points per game) and rebounder (8.7) in 2017-18.

Head coach John Calipari discussed Travis' transfer in Kentucky's official announcement about the move:

"I felt good about where we stood with next year's team, but when I found out how much Reid wanted to be here, I had to take a look and say, 'OK, can he help us? Can he help our team become even more potent and can we help him reach his dreams?' The answers were absolutely. You're talking about a two-time all-conference player who could have very well entered the NBA draft with what he's done in his career."

According to 247Sports' Evan Daniels, Travis visited Kentucky on Monday prior to making his decision, and he will enroll at the school this week.

Travis is the Wildcats' fifth major addition ahead of the 2018-19 season. Their 2018 recruiting class is the second-best in the country behind the Duke Blue Devils, per 247Sports' composite rankings.

Power forward EJ Montgomery, point guard Ashton Hagans, small forward Keldon Johnson and point guard Immanuel Quickley are all top-five recruits at their respective positions, and Tyler Herro is the sixth-best shooting guard, according to 247Sports.

Getting the 6'8", 240-pound Travis is particularly important because he's a proven scorer and rebounder who won't need the adjustment period typical with incoming recruits.

Forward PJ Washington returned to Kentucky after testing the NBA waters, but fellow big men Jarred Vanderbilt and Wenyen Gabriel, who combined for 12.7 points and 13.3 rebounds, opted to forgo their remaining years of eligibility.

Travis can play a starring role in what will be his only season with the Wildcats.
