Duke Posts Jon Scheyer Childhood Photo After Mavs Reportedly Hire Michigan's Dusty May as HC
Duke appeared to take a subtle shot at Michigan with Wolverines coach Dusty May on his way out of Ann Arbor.
ESPN's Pete Thamel, Adam Schefter and Shams Charania reported May is finalizing a contract with the Dallas Mavericks.
Shortly after the news broke, Duke shared a photo of coach Jon Scheyer wearing a Blue Devils shirt as a kid:
The Stein Line's Marc Stein reported last week that Dallas' coaching search dragged on because the organization wanted to afford Scheyer "every conceivable opportunity to consider a leap to the NBA."
The 38-year-old clearly preferred to stick around with the Blue Devils.
The NBA interest in Scheyer is unlikely to go away, though, as long as the program continues to win. Sooner or later, he may start to seriously examine his options.
The dawn of NIL and the transfer portal have made an already demanding job even more of a commitment. It's not a coincidence seemingly more college coaches are moving onto the pros or retiring altogether.
For now, Duke can spike the football after seeing Scheyer spurn an NBA team. You can be sure that Monday's post will be thrown in the Blue Devils' face if he winds up leaving at a later day.
