Stephen Curry 'Not Losing Any Sleep' over Offensive Struggles vs. Rockets
Stephen Curry isn't pressing the panic button following a slow start in the Western Conference Finals.
Speaking to reporters Friday, the Golden State Warriors point guard said he's not "losing any sleep" after averaging 17 points on 44.1 percent shooting from the field, including 2-of-13 from three, over the series' first two games against the Houston Rockets.
"I've gone 0-for-11 before shooting threes and 1-for-8, whatever the case is," Curry added. "I always shoot that next shot with the optimism and confidence that it's going in. So, you can work on stuff between practices and games to get your rhythm, just seeing the ball going in and working on your mechanics, but [I'll] never lose confidence in myself. That'll never change."
Curry's numbers over the past couple of games haven't been encouraging, to be sure. However, open looks have been there—and they figure to start falling sooner or later.
According to Second Spectrum player-tracking data, Curry shot 3-of-9 on uncontested field-goal attempts in Game 1 and 2-of-10 on open looks in Game 2.
Those inefficiencies haven't engendered a sense of panic.
"I knew the last couple of days was going to be about Steph struggling shooting the ball, but then that's the last thing I'm worried about," Kevin Durant said, per ESPN's Chris Haynes. "I've got so much confidence in him on the offensive side of the basketball. As far as shooting the ball, I said this way before you guys even said that he was the best shooter to ever play. I got confidence in him on that side. I think we all do."
Curry, who has shot 58.1 percent from the field and 8-of-16 from three at home this postseason in just two games, will try to shake off his woes Sunday when Game 3 tips off at Oracle Arena.
