Spurs needed a response to Chelsea applying the pressure on Saturday and duly got one thanks to their two star players. Alli was on the scoresheet after just 16 minutes, thank in no small part to Watford goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis.

The Udinese loanee spilled a cross from Kieran Trippier, allowing Christian Eriksen to tee up Alli. One more assist put Eriksen in select company among players from Tottenham's recent history, according to OptaJoe:

Eriksen had done his bit, but Trippier was again involved when Spurs doubled their lead three minutes after the break. The right-back played the pass for Kane to finish from close range.

Supplying goals for Tottenham's main striker has become a habit for Trippier against the Hornets, per Squawka Football:

Spurs protected the lead professionally, despite Richarlison and Gerard Deulofeu going close for the visitors, and took a step closer to qualifying for Europe's top club competition for the third season running.

It will be important for the Lilywhites to continue their momentum against bottom side West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. With home fixtures against Newcastle United and Leicester City to follow, Tottenham are a good bet to hold off Chelsea in the race for a top-four finish.

Things are different for a Watford side at home to the Magpies in Week 37 before a trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the season's final week. The Hornets should avoid any hint of a relegation battle but need to beat Newcastle in order to make sure they limp over the line.

Two of Week 37's showpiece matches will occur on Sunday when champions Manchester City are presented with the trophy before their home game against struggling Huddersfield Town at the Etihad Stadium.

LONDON, ENGLAND - APRIL 29: Leroy Sane of Manchester City celebrates with his team mates after he scores his sides first goal during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Manchester City at London Stadium on April 29, 2018 in London, Englan

As for Tottenham's north London rivals Arsenal, Sunday will be the last home match for manager Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman will step down at the end of the season after 22 years at the helm but will want to beat Burnley and avoid slipping to seventh.

The week's most important fixture will see Chelsea target another top-four chaser in the form of Liverpool. Defeat at Stamford Bridge would damage the Reds' chances, with both Chelsea and Spurs having played a game less.
