Premier League Fixtures: Live Stream, TV Schedule and Week 36 EPL Predictions

Tom SunderlandApr 27, 2018

Arsene Wenger will travel to Old Trafford as Arsenal manager one last time on Sunday and look to end a 12-year wait for a Premier League league victory at Manchester United's fortress before he leaves the club this summer.

Manchester City may have already clinched the crown, but there's much ground to be fought for below, and defeat at the Theatre of Dreams would officially end Arsenal's hopes of finishing in the top four.

Following Tuesday's UEFA Champions League triumph over AS Roma, Liverpool play host to Stoke City in Saturday's early kick-off. And Southampton welcome Bournemouth in a tense south-coast derby clash knowing their top-flight futures are under threat.

Wenger and Mourinho's Farewell

Wenger's impending departure from the Arsenal helm means Sunday's meeting with United boss Jose Mourinho—probably the last time the two tacticians will clash—has added meaning despite a lack of competitive edge.

For all the animosity that's formed between the two, including touchline scuffles and thinly veiled barbs in the media, Mourinho gave a more respectful account of his Premier League peer when it was confirmed Wenger would leave Arsenal, per Indy Football:

Seventeen points separate second-placed United from the Gunners in sixth, making this season a far cry from the past battles between the two managers, with much more often at stake.

Many would see that gulf as a testament to why Wenger is right to step down given the club's trajectory on the domestic front.

When discussing Wenger's departure, former nemesis Sir Alex Ferguson seemed a touch more candid than United's incumbent boss, per the Press Association:

United's Premier League points tally of 74 is already the best they've managed since Ferguson won the title in his final season in 2013, which is encouraging for Mourinho with four games left to play.

Arsenal, on the other hand, sit on 57 points with four games left to play. Even if they were to win all those games, it would be their worst points tally since 2011; the club hasn't finished with fewer than 67 points in a Premier League campaign since 1995-96 (63), the season before Wenger arrived in north London.

Wenger and Mourinho may meet again in the future depending on what path the former takes in his post-Arsenal career, but this looks likely to be their last Premier League encounter at the least—the end of a tumultuous relationship between two of the division's best modern managerial masterminds.

Relegation Race Hits Fever Pitch

The most immediate danger in the relegation free-for-all heading into Week 36 is for West Brom, whose drop down to the Championship will be confirmed unless they emerge with a win at Newcastle on Saturday.

Nothing except three points will do for the Baggies in their visit to the Hawthorns, which is particularly frustrating given the progress made under caretaker coach Darren Moore, as noted by presenter Dan Walker:

West Brom are unbeaten under Moore, defeating United at Old Trafford as well as drawing against Liverpool and Swansea City. It's unfortunate for him that Rafa Benitez has Newcastle in good shape, too, despite seeing their four-match win streak ended by defeat at Everton on Monday.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth can seriously dent the survival hopes of 18th-placed rivals Southampton if they manage a win at St Mary's stadium on Saturday.

Statistician Simon Gleave recently noted the Saints' slip toward relegation, having now gone their last five matches without a win:

Southampton are level with 19th-placed Stoke City, but manager Mark Hughes has a game in hand over his former side in the hopes a first Premier League win since February 3 can revitalise their prospects this term.

With four points between Southampton and safety, Bournemouth could land a killer blow on the former's top-flight future by denying the hosts a win, with Hughes' men travelling to Everton and Swansea before ending the season at home to Manchester City.
