Real Madrid will host Leganes in La Liga on Saturday, but despite this being a local derby, Los Blancos are expected to field a team made up of mostly backups.
The UEFA Champions League holders will face Bayern Munich at home in midweek after beating the Germans 2-1 in the first leg of the semi-finals. With the La Liga title race all but over, the focus is on Europe at this point.
Date: Saturday, April 28
Time: 5:30 p.m. BST/12:30 p.m. ET
Venue: Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid
While fans will have to wait for the official team sheets to see who manager Zinedine Zidane will rest, there's little doubt most of his top players―if not all of them―will be on the bench or watching from the stands.
Health is imperative at this stage of the season, so anyone who picked up a knock on Wednesday won't be risked. That includes Marcelo, per ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan:
Nordin Amrabat returned from injury in the scoreless draw against Deportivo La Coruna and is expected to retain his spot in the team for Leganes.
Going into the weekend, Real sit 15 points behind Barcelona―who are a virtual lock to win the title―and four points behind local rivals Atletico Madrid, who have played an additional match.
While Zidane would love to beat Los Rojiblancos to the finish line, he'll prioritise the Champions League at this point.
He has another reason to rest his stars Saturday: Real's next outing in La Liga will be the Clasico against Barcelona, and even if there's no silverware on the line in that contest, the rivalry remains one of the fiercest in Europe.
Leganes may play their football in the Madrid region, but they've spent the bulk of their existence outside of La Liga and have no real rivalry with any of the top clubs in the capital.
Leganes sit a healthy 12 points above the relegation zone and have little left to play for this season. The campaign will go down as a success, especially given their run to the Copa del Rey semi-finals.
They knocked Real out of that tournament in the quarter-finals, so adventurous punters hoping to score big may want to take a risk on the minnows on Saturday.
