Chivas vs. America: Score and Reaction from 2018 Liga MX Match
Club America continued their unbeaten start to the Torneo Clausura on Saturday, as they battled to 1-1 draw at the home of rivals Chivas Guadalajara.
The hosts took the lead at the Estadio Akron, with Jose Godinez netting after 21 minutes. However, Oribe Peralta levelled for the visitors five minutes later, and while there were a number of chances created in the second period, both sides had to settle for a point in the end.
The draw sees Club America finish the weekend in second place, two points behind leaders Santos Laguna. Only Lobos BUAP and Atlas are below Guadalajara in the standings after the Clasico Nacional.

Unsurprisingly, the match got off to a frantic start, as both sides created early opportunities to open the scoring.

When Chivas did break the deadlock it was deserved, as Javier Eduardo Lopez won a brilliant knockdown to release Godinez inside the penalty area. From there, the 21-year-old showed tremendous maturity to rattle home a high finish.
Here's a look at the goal that sparked wild celebrations at the Estadio Akron, per the league's official Twitter account:
Still, since the start of the Clausura, America have proved themselves to be a tough nut to crack, and it was no shock to see them back on the front foot immediately after falling behind.
They ensured the home side were only in front for five minutes, as Renato Ibarra found Peralta with his back to goal in the penalty area.
After a brilliant turn and shimmy away from his marker, the 34-year-old produced a cool finish to bring his side level, as we can see here:
It was a pulsating clash, with those in attendance or on the pitch given no time to take a breath. The best openings fell for the visitors, though, with Lopez and Jeremy Menez both squandering opportunities to fire their side ahead.
As relayed by ESPN's Tom Marshall, tensions were beginning to fray on the sidelines at the end of a gripping first period:
The second half wasn't quite as frantic and there were moments when both teams appeared content with a point.

The clearest chance of the second period fell to Peralta, who again found space in the area. But this time the veteran's effort ended up on the roof of the net. Godinez also had an opportunity to secure a brace, but he panicked and fired over when one-on-one with goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin.
While a draw meant America would finish the weekend behind new leaders Santos Laguna, a point away from home against their biggest rivals is never a result to be sniffed at.
Meanwhile, after a torrid Clausura so far, Chivas would have been pleased with the way they acquitted themselves against one of the league's best sides. They remain seven matches without a league win, but they will fancy their chances at Lobos on Saturday if they can replicate this type of performance.
