Rules: All European leagues have been assigned a difficulty factor of between one and two by UEFA, which is multiplied by a player's goals to calculate his points tally.
Europe's top five leagues have a maximum rating of two, so goals scored in them are worth two points, whereas in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, for example, goals are worth just 1.5 points each.
Cavani Hits PSG Milestone
After equalling Zlatan Ibrahimovic's record of 156 goals for PSG on January 17, Cavani failed to find the net in the club's next two games.
The Uruguayan put the record to bed early in Saturday's clash with Montpellier, though, as he broke the deadlock with a close-range tap-in after just 11 minutes.
PSG's official Twitter account hailed the striker's achievement:
Cavani netted the record strike after just 229 games for the club since his arrival in 2013, and it also brought him to 21 Ligue 1 goals for the season.
His team-mate Neymar also found the net twice, which—after racking up four in his last outing for PSG—saw him break into the top 10 in the race for the Golden Shoe.
The Brazilian scored a penalty following a handball, and he rounded out the scoring late on after being picked out by Cavani.
He has been an irrepressible force in Ligue 1 this year, per Squawka Football:
Messi has been similarly outstanding in La Liga as always, and his heroics saved Barcelona once again on Sunday.
After Luis Suarez had cancelled out John Guidetti's shock opener for Alaves, Messi curled home a free-kick to ensure three points went to the Blaugrana.
Sky Bet shared some of the Argentinian's sensational numbers:
Messi needs just one more goal to pull level with Kane and Cavani.
Whereas earlier in the season much of Messi's goalscoring was contained to spectacular bursts in individual matches—he bagged three braces, a hat-trick and a four-goal haul between August 26 and October 1—he is now often finding the net just once per game but on an even more consistent basis.
Messi has scored in nine of the 12 matches he has played since the start of December, with eight goals coming in La Liga in that time.
If he can maintain that run, he'll soon have a share of the lead.
