David Beckham's Miami Soccer Team Reportedly Expected to Be Announced
David Beckham's Major League Soccer franchise is expected to be officially launched on Monday, according to Douglas Hanks and Michelle Kaufman of the Miami Herald.
The launch of Beckham's Miami team has been four years in the making. Hanks and Kaufman noted how final details have been ironed out with MLS, prompting a launch event to welcome the franchise.
However, BBC Sport (h/t BBC News) has reported MLS has confirmed only progress is being made towards an eventual deal.

Stadium land has already been secured in Overtown, Florida, thanks to a deal undertaken with the administration of Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez. The mayor plans to attend Monday's event, although festivities could be pushed to Tuesday because of scheduling conflicts, per the report.

Speaking of conflicts, Hanks and Kaufman also detailed how plans are afoot to block the building of the proposed 25,000-seater stadium in Overtown: "Bruce Matheson, a wealthy landowner near the stadium site, is suing to overturn the no-bid county deal and other neighbours are organising to block the zoning approvals needed by the city of Miami to build the $200 million stadium."
As things stand, though, Beckham and the group helping to back his team appear content to push ahead with the unveiling.
It's been a costly venture for Beckham, with Richard Moriarty of The Sun revealing how £27.6 million ($39.3 million) has so far been invested to make a team happen in Miami.
