Tuesday Recap
There seemed to be a shock on the cards when Equatorial Guinea took the lead over Nigeria in Agadir, but the Super Eagles took destiny into their own hands and soared into the last eight.
Nsi Eyama grabbed the opener six minutes before half-time, but it was to be the best moment of the match for the eventual losers.
Nigeria kicked into gear in the second half and produced a performance worthy of prospective group winners.
Equatorial Guinea had edged possession in the first half, but Nigeria had renewed purpose after the interval.
Anthony Okpotu scored the equaliser after 59 minutes, and the effort knocked the stuffing out of the side who finish bottom of the group.
Ekundayo Ojo's long-range strike gave the Super Eagles the advantage 10 minutes later, and qualification was within Nigeria's grasp.
Rabiu Ali wrapped up victory with seven minutes remaining, with the midfielder making sure his effort hit the back of the net.
CAF highlighted the match statistics after the result:
Rwanda believed they had done enough against Libya as they dominated possession for large periods of the game, but they were cruelly punished in injury time as they toppled out of the competition.
Libya put their foot on the gas in the second half, but it seemed their luck was out as they missed a hatful of good chances.
The Rwandans were clearly searching for a draw—a result that would have meant qualification—but their negativity cost them dearly.
Elmutasem Abushnaf was the hero, rewarding the Libyans for their devotion to attacking football, producing a 1-0 victory in the 93rd minute.
