Sunday Recap
A lethargic City side made a slow start at home to the Hammers, which suited them perfectly as they sat deep with uncharacteristic organisation.
David Moyes' side took a shock lead in the final minutes of the first half through Angelo Ogbonna, who headed Aaron Cresswell's cross past Ederson.
Match of the Day's Gary Lineker gave his take:
Gabriel Jesus was brought on at the break, and it took just 12 minutes for the Brazilian to make an impact as he danced through the penalty area before driving the ball across the six-yard box for Nicolas Otamendi to bundle home.
City continued to turn the screw in search of a winner, and after being denied several times by Adrian, they eventually found a way through when David Silva turned in Kevin De Bruyne's superb ball over the top in the 83rd minute.
Adam Smith's booking in the first half was a source of controversy in the south-coast derby. He was fouled by Southampton's Sofiane Boufal in the penalty area, but rather than award a spot-kick to the Cherries, referee Jon Moss brandished a yellow card at him for diving.
Moss later apologised to Smith, who expressed his disappointment at the decision, per BBC Solent Sport:
However, the manner in which the defender went down may have given Moss reason to doubt him, per Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe:
Bournemouth nevertheless took the lead before the break through Ryan Fraser's first-time finish.
Nathan Redmond's introduction for the visitors gave them some much-needed spark in attack, and they grabbed an equaliser through Charlie Austin after 61 minutes, with Redmond the provider.
Saints host Arsenal in their next outing, while Bournemouth visit Crystal Palace.
