Here are predictions for some of Tuesday's key outings.
Real Madrid Will Find Success Against Borussia Dortmund
The European champions have started the La Liga season in poor form and barely grabbed the win against Deportivo Alaves at the weekend.
The Basques came into the match having lost all of their fixtures and without having scored a goal this season, but they twice struck the post and came agonisingly close to stealing points in the 2-1 loss.
Over in Germany, Dortmund cruised to a 6-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach. In their last three matches, BVB have scored an absurd 14 goals and conceded just once.
As shared by Bundesliga English, their start to the season has been historic:
But domestic form does not always translate into Europe. Real cruised to a win over Apoel Nicosia FC in their first outing, while Dortmund struggled at Wembley Stadium against Spurs―a venue where the club still hasn't recorded a win in the Premier League yet.
Los Blancos have the clear edge in experience and rested several players in the narrow win over Alaves on Saturday. Look for them to make good on their status as European giants on Tuesday.
Liverpool Will Beat Spartak in Moscow
Clubs from Europe's top competitions usually hope to avoid their counterparts from the east, with long travel, tricky weather conditions and bad pitches often leading to difficult trips.
Liverpool fans may have despaired when Spartak emerged as a member of their group, but fortunately for the Reds, they will travel to Moscow at the perfect time.
Separating domestic form from European form is one thing, but the Russian champions have been awful all season―they've won just one of their last seven matches.
Spartak are seventh in the Russian Premier League right now and couldn't even beat lowly NK Maribor in their last European contest. As shared by sports writer John Bradley, they didn't fare any better over the weekend:
On top of that, the weather in Moscow in early October is usually nothing compared to one month later. Per Accuweather.com, the forecast for Tuesday is reasonable, with mild temperatures and no precipitation.
The Reds have struggled defensively this season, but Spartak should not worry manager Jurgen Klopp all that much. If ever there was a perfect time for Liverpool to face the Russian champions, this would be it.
