The Heat announced July 4 they waived Bosh. A month earlier, the Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman reported a medical panel determined Bosh had suffered a career-ending illness, thus allowing the team to release him without his remaining salary counting against the salary cap.

Bleacher Report's Howard Beck reported in December the NBA and National Basketball Players Association had reached an agreement allowing an independent medical panel to resolve disputes between a team and player over the player's health.

Since he's no longer under contract with the Heat, Bosh can sign with any other team, but he'll have to receive medical clearance before he's allowed to return to the court.

Under normal circumstances, Bosh would have to wait nine months before he could possibly play again, but Winderman reported the new CBA made an exception for Bosh that would allow him to bypass that waiting period.
