Zach Buchananย of theย Cincinnati Enquirerย added that, along with Greene's record-setting bonus, he also became the "first player to go in top two picks and go over slot."ย

Perย J.J. Cooperย of Baseball America, the No. 2 pick value was slotted in at $7.1 million.

The two sides certainly came to an agreement at the last minute, with theย deadlineย to agree on a contract at 5 p.m. ET on Friday.

The 17-year-old certainly comes with hype, with electrifying stuff and enough athleticism and pop that he easily could have been drafted as a position player. But his upside is at pitcher, even if his off-speed repertoire needs some work.

According toย Jim Callisย of MLB.com, "That's the biggest quibble with Greene, that he has yet to demonstrate consistent feel for spin. Some scouts rate his curveball as well below average and think he'll have to scrap it in favor of a slider, while others grade both offerings as fringy, but with the potential to become plus."

But with a fastball that sits comfortably in the mid-90s and has been clocked in as high as 102 MPH, there's little questioning Greene's upside. Few high-school righties have flashed the sort of upside that Green brings to the table, making it hardly surprising the Reds were willing to break the bank to sign him.
