New York Knicks 91, Miami Heat 72
Damyean Dotson scored a game-high 20 points to help the Knicks end an otherwise disappointing Summer League effort on a high note with a blowout of the Heat.
Dotson, a second-round pick in the 2017 draft out of the University of Houston, knocked down eight of his 11 shots, including four three-pointers on seven attempts. The shooting guard also chipped in nine rebounds, four assists and a steal.
The 23-year-old Texas native talked with NBA TV after the win:
Chasson Randle added 18 points and six boards for New York. Summer League standout Luke Kornet had 10 points, five rebounds and three blocks in 20 minutes off the bench.
Frank Ntilikina, the team's first-round selection, remained sidelined with a knee injury, though.
Meanwhile, Okaro White posted a double-double for the Heat with 12 points and 12 rebounds. He racked up six fouls and five turnovers, however.
Matt Williams (14 points), Bam Adebayo (13), Justin Robinson (12) and London Perrantes (11) also reached double figures in scoring for Miami.
Adebayo, the 14th overall pick in this year's draft, also provided a highlight-reel block, via NBA TV:
The Heat complete their run in Orlando with a 0-5 record and an average losing margin of 8.8 points.
Charlotte Hornets 86, Orlando Magic 78
Dwayne Bacon poured in 29 points in 31 minutes to lead the Hornets to a closely contested victory over the Magic to capture fifth place.
Bacon has showcased a lot of playmaking ability when attacking the rim in Orlando after Charlotte used a second-round pick on him last month. Along with the game-high point total, the shooting guard had eight rebounds and converted all seven of his free-throw attempts.
NBA TV spotlighted another strong effort from the Florida State product:
Johnny O'Bryant III also put together a solid stat line with 23 points and five boards. Briante Weber added 16 points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists in the win.
Marcus Georges-Hunt, who signed with the Magic in April after spending most of last season with the Maine Red Claws in the G League, continues to show signs of becoming an impact NBA reserve. He had 18 points, five boards and three dimes in the finale.
Przemek Karnowski enjoyed a standout performance of his own with 20 points and nine rebounds. He rose to prominence with Gonzaga, especially during the 2017 NCAA Tournament, but questions about his athleticism caused him to go undrafted.
Nicola Lupo of DefPen Hoops liked what he witnessed from the 7'1'' center:
The victory allowed the Hornets to finish with a 3-2 record. The Magic end up 2-3.
Indiana Pacers 89, Oklahoma City Thunder 80
The Pacers dominated on the boards, outrebounding the Thunder 39-26, to score a nine-point victory over OKC in the event's third-place game.
Jarnell Stokes and Naz Long led the way offensively for Indiana with 17 points apiece. Jordan Loyd paced the terrific performance on the glass with 10 boards while also tallying seven points, six assists and a steal.
Stokes joined NBA TV to discuss the victory:
On the opposite side, all five of Oklahoma City's starters scored at least 12 points, led by Semaj Christon with 21. The 24-year-old point guard, a 2014 second-round pick of the Miami Heat, continue to struggle protecting the ball with six turnovers, though.
Josh Huestis added 16 points, six rebounds and a block for the Thunder. Basketball Society likes the progress the forward has made on the offensive end:
The win caps an impressive 4-1 showing for the Pacers in Orlando. The Thunder fell to 2-3.
Dallas Mavericks 83, Detroit Pistons 81 (OT)
Johnathan Motley hit a game-winning jumper with 0.3 seconds left on the clock to give the Mavericks the Orlando Summer League title following an overtime thriller with the Pistons.
Luke Kennard knocked down a three with just under seven seconds to play to tie the game for the Pistons. Dallas responded with what looked like a busted pick-and-role attempt, but Motley connected on an awkward mid-range jump shot from just inside the free-throw line to secure the victory.
The Mavericks highlighted the winner:
Dwight Buycks completed his terrific run in Orlando with 28 points to lead Dallas. He also posted six assists, five rebounds and three steals. Motley also had a nice day before hitting the key shot, finishing with a double-double (18 points and 10 boards).
It was mostly a two-man show for Pistons in the heartbreaking loss.
Kennard drained all three of his attempts from downtown en route to 24 points and also grabbed five rebounds. Pierre Jackson had 22 points and eight assists. The rest of the team combined for 35 points on 34.3 percent shooting from the field, however.
It's the first Summer League championship for the Mavericks.
