Deshaun Watson Says Teams Will 'Live with the Consequences' of Passing on Him
Former Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson warned teams against selecting North Carolina's Mitchell Trubisky ahead of him in the 2017 NFL draft during an interview Tuesday.
According to NFL.com's Jeremy Bergman, Watson said the following on NFL Network's Good Morning Football:
"You're gonna have to live with the consequences that come with it. That's how I see it. I try to stay in my lane. I try not to take the path. I respect Mitch and what he's done and all the hype he's getting, but at the same time, my result speaks for itself. I feel like I've accomplished everything that I could. I guess if that's who they're gonna roll with, so be it.
"
Trubisky and Watson are widely expected to be the first two signal-callers off the board during the first round of the draft Thursday.
However, Trubisky may be ahead of Watson at this juncture, as the Cleveland Browns are reportedly considering the UNC quarterback with the No. 1 overall selection, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.
Trubisky threw for 3,748 yards, 30 touchdowns and six interceptions in 2016 to go along with 308 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns.
He was only a full-time starter for one season, though, whereas Watson put up huge numbers in both 2015 and 2016 as a Heisman Trophy candidate.
Watson racked up 4,593 yards, 41 touchdowns and 17 interceptions through the air last year, as well as 629 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.
He also led Clemson to consecutive national championship games, including a win over Alabama last season.
In the latest big board from Bleacher Report's Matt Miller, Watson ranked as the No. 2 quarterback and No. 22 overall prospect, while Trubisky came in as the top quarterback and No. 14 overall player.
Miller projected in his most recent mock draft that the Buffalo Bills will select Trubisky 10th and the New York Giants will take Watson at No. 23.
