Stephen Curry 2nd Warriors Player to Reach Defensive Milestone
Golden State Warriors superstar point guard Stephen Curry posted a well-rounded Game 2 against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday evening, collecting 19 points, six rebounds, six assists, four steals and one block.
In addition to contributing heavily to the team's 2-0 advantage early in the series, Curry surpassed 100 career steals during the postseason. He's just the second player in Warriors history—Rick Barry being the other—to reach triple-digits in playoff thefts, per Warriors Public Relations.
The game was never really in question for the Warriors, possessing a 16-point lead at the end of the first quarter. As the halftime buzzer sounded, Portland had inched within nine points, but the Warriors outscored the Trail Blazers by another 16 points in the third quarter to put any doubt to rest.
Curry generally receives most of his accolades and highlight reels for his three-point shooting and ball-handling skills, but he also contributes on the defensive end of the floor. The eighth-year Davidson product averages nearly two steals per contest each year and has five through two playoff tilts this year.
Golden State secured the top seed in the Western Conference thanks to a hot streak toward the end of the regular season, and that has transitioned into the first round of the playoffs. The team looks to be in top form as it heads out to Portland for Games 3 and 4. Should they manage to sweep the series, the Warriors would get a chance to rest up ahead of a second-round series against either the Los Angeles Clippers or Utah Jazz.
First things first, the Warriors need to take care of their own business against the Trail Blazers. Game 3 tips off 10:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Moda Center.
