Recap
Casemiro was the unlikely hero for Los Merengues when he netted the winner in the 68th minute. The Brazilian holding player is a rare goalscorer, according to OptaJose:
Casemiro's goal cancelled out Aritz Aduriz's equaliser for Bilbao. Madrid's winner was created by a flick-on from Cristiano Ronaldo.
The prolific No. 7 had already supplied one goal when he played in Karim Benzema to open the scoring. Two assists made Ronaldo unique among this season's title-chasing Mardrid squad:
Los Blancos were able to see out the remaining 22 minutes plus stoppage time following Casemiros' goal thanks to their mastery of midfield. German playmaker Toni Kroos controlled the passing, while match-winner Casemiro made sure Bilbao's attempts to create an equaliser were broken up.
WhoScored.com detailed how effective Casemiro was defensively:
Kroos, Casemiro and Ronaldo ensured there was misery for Bilbao by continuing manager Ernesto Valverde's poor record against Los Merengues:
Alaves punished Sociedad thanks to a goal from Levante loanee Deyverson a minute before half-time. The cup finalists then defended resolutely to deny a capable Sociedad attack chances.
Former Arsenal man Carlos Vela was still a danger with his acceleration and subtle movement off the ball. However, Vela and Sociedad's case was not helped by midfielder Esteban Granero being sent off after receiving a second yellow card in the 67th minute.
By slipping up in Alaves, Sociedad failed to take advantage of Villarreal losing 1-0 in Las Palmas on Friday night.

Earlier, Kike Garcia headed Eibar in front against Espanyol after just 20 minutes. Yet the hosts couldn't hold the lead thanks to Espanyol's confident passing and smart movement between the lines.
Midfield schemer Jose Manuel Jurado netted the equaliser Espanyol merited just five minutes into the second half. Gerard Moreno teed up 30-year-old Jurado to finish smartly from close range.
Betis ended the night by inflicting Osasuna's 19th loss of a nightmare season. Rafa Navarro and Ruben Castro both scored in the opening 28 minutes, while Osasuna were unable to muster any reply over the next 62.

Osasuna have long appeared doomed, while Los Merengues increasingly look worthy of winning a first league title since the 2011/12 season.
