Penn State 76, Nebraska 67
The 12th-ranked Cornhuskers didn't lead for a single second Wednesday as the 13th-ranked Nittany Lions shook off an underwhelming 22-point second half to capture a nine-point overtime win.
Center Mike Watkins was a force on both ends with 18 points, 11 rebounds and eight blocks, and he was one of four double-figure scorers for the Nittany Lions on a day when they collectively shot 43.6 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from three.
By virtue of the win, Penn State will now face the Michigan State Spartans on Thursday. And while Tom Izzo's Spartans sit eight seeds higher, the Nittany Lions did win the only meeting between the two sides when they clashed on Jan. 7 in Philadelphia.
The Cornhuskers, meanwhile, will hope for an NIT bid at best after going 12-18 in the regular season prior to Tuesday's loss.
Rutgers 66, Ohio State 57
The Scarlet Knights made a bit of school history Tuesday night when they captured their first Big Ten tournament win with a defeat of the Buckeyes.
The tournament's lowest seed, Rutgers overcame 37.1 percent shooting from the field and 30.4 percent shooting from three to take down the 11th-seeded Buckeyes.
As it turns out, the key for the Scarlet Knights was intensity on the glass and on defense. All told, Rutgers posted a 47-31 edge in total rebounding, including a 19-7 advantage on the offensive boards.
Looking ahead, the pressure will be on the Scarlet Knights to replicate that formula Wednesday when they take on the sixth-seeded Northwestern Wildcats. Chris Collins' club won both regular season meetings, but it should be noted that the Wildcats' average margin of victory in those games was just 6.5 points.
