NBA B/R Kicks of the Week: Best on Court for NBA Week 13
Bleacher Report's kicks of the week are back with another look at the top five selections from the past seven days of on-court action.
The usual formula remains in place. We'll explore unique "Player Exclusive" models, new colorways of signature kicks and, of course, retro favorites.
Let's all kick back and find out which athletes and models made this week's cut.
LeBron James: Nike LeBron 14 'MLK Day'
1 of 5Who: Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James
Sneaker Worn: Nike LeBron 14 "MLK Day"
Honoring the extraordinary accomplishments and life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Nike collaborated with its signature athletes to produce "MLK Day" sneakers. LeBron James was given a pair of his LeBron 14s with this treatment as he suited up against the Golden State Warriors on Monday.
The matte-black overlay dressed down the sneaker, minus the sole, which was given a dark blue, translucent look. The combination created a distinct yet powerful colorway.
The fact Cleveland lost to Golden State remains irrelevant. Kings James' kicks meant more than a game of hoops. They paid tribute to a movement and a person who defined the true meaning of equality.
Joel Embiid: Adidas Light Em Up 2 'Player Exclusive'
2 of 5Who: Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid
Sneaker Worn: Adidas Light Em Up 2 "Player Exclusive"
Trust the process. Also trust Joel Embiid's sneaker choices. The Philadelphia 76ers center has rolled with the Adidas Light Em Up 2 as his silhouette of choice this season.
Using a "Player Exclusive" model—with his initials embedded onto tongue—Embiid has taken the NBA by storm. His averages of 19.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game have put his Rookie of the Year ambitions in lockdown mode.
The Light Em Up 2 is a sneaker that relies on Adidas' Bounce cushioning platform to thrive. It doesn't shine like the Crazy Explosive, yet it's different. And in that respect, it fits Embiid's on-court game and exuberant personality.
Paul George: Nike PG 1 'Player Exclusive'
3 of 5
Who: Indiana Pacers forward Paul George
Sneaker Worn: Nike PG 1 "Player Exclusive"
The rollout of Paul George's debut signature shoe, the Nike PG 1, has gotten off to a hot start. On Wednesday, George unveiled a "Player Exclusive" model resembling the colors of the Indiana Pacers.
It's cool to watch Nike distribute multiple colorways of George's first shoe. The sneaker itself works on the court and has given consumers another dope choice in the aesthetics department. Our hope is there will be more eclectic choices unveiled in the coming weeks.
Marcus Morris: Air Jordan 11 PRM 'Grey Suede'
4 of 5Who: Detroit Pistons forward Marcus Morris
Sneaker Worn: Air Jordan 11 PRM "Grey Suede"
Detroit Pistons forward Marcus Morris has successfully cemented himself as an NBA sneaker lord. His constant rotation of heat, shuffling between Nike and Jordan Brand favorites, has turned his footwear choices into must-watch TV.
Morris went with the Air Jordan 11 PRM "Grey Suede" against the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday. Rocking a premium sneaker, mainly installed for casual wear, remains a daring choice. It doesn't always hold up in a tech capacity, but nonetheless, Morris went with this particular model.
We can talk about prominent figures within the NBA's sneaker community and gawk over LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and James Harden. Although he's different—like when it comes to having a signature shoe—Morris is equally as effective in displaying outstanding kicks.
Ben Simmons: Air Jordan I 'Top 3'
5 of 5Who: Philadelphia 76ers guard Ben Simmons
Sneaker Worn: Air Jordan I "Top 3"
All right, so we know Ben Simmons hasn't actually laced up an on-court pair of kicks for the Philadelphia 76ers yet. But his decision to wear the Air Jordan I "Top 3" resonates with all sneakerheads across the globe.
Technically speaking, he was displaying these kicks on an NBA hardwood floor. So, that means Simmons' Air Jordan I counts, right?
This sneaker became a valiant tribute to the "Banned," "Chicago" and "Royal" Jordan Is. Together, it created a pair of kicks worthy of all footwear enthusiasts. Seeing Simmons rock it on the sidelines shares hope that he may roll with more exclusive Nike models when he finally returns to action.
