Armed Forces Bowl 2016: Louisiana Tech vs. Navy Live Score and Highlights
Louisiana Tech 48, Navy 45—Final
This one lived up to its billing as one of the most exciting games of the bowl season. Jonathan Barnes nailed a 32-yard field goal as the clock hit zero, and Louisiana Tech won it 48-45 over Navy in an offensive showcase for both teams.
Navy quarterback Zach Abey was hurt on the team's final drive, but freshman Malcolm Perry scored a 30-yard touchdown on his first play to tie the game up 45-45 with 3:46 remaining. The Midshipmen used all three of their timeouts in the third quarter, so the inability to stop the clock really hurt on the game-winning drive for Louisiana Tech.
Senior quarterback Ryan Higgins was magnificent, throwing for 409 yards and four touchdowns, and his composure at the end to spread the ball around goes deeper than the box score will show. He completed passes of 21 and 23 yards on the final drive, and the Bulldogs were able to run the clock out before Barnes made the game-winning kick.
Wide receiver Trent Taylor broke the Armed Forces Bowl receiving record with 233 yards, and Carlos Henderson added another 129 in the win. The two combined for all four of Higgins' touchdowns, and together they caught 22 passes in this one.
Louisiana Tech moves to 9-5 with the victory, its third straight nine-win season and third straight bowl win under head coach Skip Holtz. Navy falls to 9-5, but it was still a great season considering the injuries suffered at quarterback.
