Myles Brennan to LSU: Tigers Land 4-Star QB
Coveted quarterback prospect Myles Brennan opted to stick with his original choice of LSU after previously reopening his recruitment in November.
Brennan announced his decision on social media Thursday: "My recruiting process is finally shut down. I am officially a committed Tiger!"
He's a 4-star prospect who checks in as the No. 257 overall player in the 2017 class, according to Scout.com. He is also the No. 16 quarterback and the top signal-caller coming out of the state of Mississippi next year.
The St. Stanislaus High School standout is a prototypical pocket passer who already possesses ideal height for the position at 6'4". He'll need to focus on adding more strength to his frame during his early years of college, however, as Scout pegs him at 185 pounds.
His aforementioned decision to review his options came as LSU put the finishing touches on removing the interim tag from Ed Orgeron to make him the full-time head coach. Brennan wrote he wanted to reopen his recruiting during the transition phase.
His high school coach, Bill Conides, told Bleacher Report's Tyler Donohue the move was designed to make sure all the pieces still fell into place.
"Really, this is a time for him to be proactive in his search for a school before he signs his name on the dotted line," Conides said. "He doesn't want to be one of those guys that gets somewhere and realizes he's not in the right place."
Ross Dellenger of the Advocate provided an update following a meeting between the Brennan family, Orgeron and new offensive coordinator Matt Canada:
Brennan will join a crowded LSU quarterback depth chart led by Danny Etling and Brandon Harris, who will both be seniors next season. The amount of competition figures to make it difficult for him to make an instant impact.
Giving him some development time would benefit everybody, though. He has an impressive skill set, highlighted by the arm talent to make any throw, but his mechanics need work. A year to iron out those issues and add weight could put him in the conversation to start heading toward the 2018 campaign.
