4-Star Athlete Tray Bishop Decommits from Auburn: Details, Reaction
Auburn potentially lost one of the most dynamic players in the 2017 class with Tray Bishop decommitting from the school Tuesday, per Drew Champlin of AL.com.
The 4-star is considered the No. 9 athlete in the country and the No. 129 overall prospect in the class, per Scout. He initially committed to Auburn in July, but the Georgia native apparently needs to think things over.
"I just need some time, so I am decommitting," Bishop told Rusty Mansell of 247Sports. "I just want to take some time to make sure I am making the right decision."
"I don’t want to reopen my recruitment," he added. "It is down to Georgia and Florida and Auburn still in the picture."
Bishop visited Florida in November despite remaining an Auburn commit and will see all three schools again before making a final decision, per Mansell.
The playmaker spent his high school career at quarterback and has good size for the position at 6'3" and 185 pounds. However, his brightest future might be at receiver or defensive back, where he can use his strength and athleticism to make a difference.
"When you consider Bishop's size, you really gain an appreciation for his agility, speed and overall movement skills," Tom Luginbill of ESPN.com noted.
It might take him some time to transition to another spot after mostly playing under center, but his upside is as good as almost anyone in the country.
Auburn still has two other athletes committed in the 2017 class in 4-stars Devan Barrett and Noah Igbinoghene, but this will be a big loss if Bishop commits elsewhere in the SEC.
