Barcelona vs. Real Madrid: Luis Enrique, Zinedine Zidane React to El Clasico

Stuart NewmanDec 3, 2016

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique said his side deserved more from their 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in what proved to be a disappointing first El Clasico of the season on Saturday.

Luis Suarez opened the scoring for the Catalan side with a well-taken header on 52 minutes, only for Sergio Ramos to head home a dramatic late equaliser in the dying embers of the match.

The result keeps Barca six points adrift of their rivals at the top of La Liga, but Enrique insists the gap should be a lot closer—via the club’s official Twitter feed:

Neymar and Lionel Messi had good chances to put the game out of Real Madrid’s reach in the second half, but Keylor Navas’ goal lived a charmed life and allowed Ramos’ late show to be decisive.

The draw means Zinedine Zidane’s men have now gone 33 games unbeaten in all competitions and 26 in La Liga, according to Marca:

Barcelona, meanwhile, have drawn their last four domestic games on the spin and look to be in something of a rut.

They’re not dominating games in the manner that the world is used to, and Enrique recognised that his team has to improve sooner rather than later:

Zidane, meanwhile, said his team showed incredible character once again to earn themselves a point—via Real Madrid Info:

The Real Madrid boss was quick to retreat, however, insisting that his side need to remain focused despite their dominant position at the top of the table:

Madrid didn’t exactly set the world alight on Saturday, and they’ll need to restore normal service in their Champions League match with Borussia Dortmund in midweek.

They return to La Liga action against Deportivo La Coruna, while Barcelona travel to Osasuna desperately looking to stop the rot.
