Bowl Predictions 2016: Full Projections for CFP Final and More Top Games
All of the speculation, all of the predictions and all the dissecting of polls has come down to one final week before the College Football Playoff committee announces its final rankings on Dec. 4.
One last slate of games in the form of conference championships will help iron out the final kinks of uncertainty as we take a look at the current rankings:
With that in mind, here are how the College Football Playoff and the other New Year's Six games could look:
| Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl* | Saturday, Dec. 31 | Alabama | Washington |
| Fiesta Bowl* | Saturday, Dec. 31 | Clemson | Ohio State |
| Capital One Orange Bowl | Friday, Dec. 30 | Florida St. | Michigan |
| Goodyear Cotton Bowl | Monday, Jan. 2 | Western Michigan | Penn State |
| Rose Bowl Game | Monday, Jan. 2 | Wisconsin | Colorado |
| Allstate Sugar Bowl | Monday, Jan. 2 | Oklahoma | Auburn |
Peach Bowl
Prediction: No. 1 Alabama vs. No. 4 Washington
The Crimson Tide are the class of college football and by far the most well-rounded team.
Its offense behind Jalen Hurts holds the capability of scoring 40 points per game, while the defense is No. 1 in the nation by allowing just 11.4 points per game.
Alabama would provide the fiercest test for Washington quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Jake Browning if his Huskies were to make it.
The Huskies' win over No. 8 Colorado in the Pac-12 title game on Friday night should be the final piece of a resume that grants access to the Final Four.
Fiesta Bowl
Prediction: No. 2 Clemson vs. No. 3 Ohio State
At the moment, Clemson and Ohio State's rankings are switched with the Buckeyes currently at the No. 2 spot after its rivalry win against No. 5 Michigan on Nov. 26.
However, Ohio State's inability to make the Big Ten title game due its loss to No. 7 Penn State could see it drop come Dec. 4. Especially if Clemson can come away as ACC champions with a win over No. 23 Virginia Tech on Saturday.
While Ohio State is prone to a fall in the rankings, it will probably be a minor one and won't put its playoff hopes in jeopardy. With an 11-1 record and four wins over ranked teams, it would be difficult for the committee to leave out the Buckeyes.
Orange Bowl
Prediction: Michigan vs. Florida State
Michigan's loss to Ohio State all but ended its semifinal hopes. With two losses on the year and an inability to play for the Big Ten title, there are too many obstacles for the Wolverines. Especially after Washington won on Friday night.
However, as the best available Big Ten team that won't be in the semifinal or Rose Bowl, the Wolverines will still be playing in a major bowl game.
For Florida State, this was a program that looked as though it would have to settle for the Citrus Bowl due to Louisville's run at the playoff through the first 10 weeks of the season.
But on Tuesday, the committee placed Florida State at No. 12, one spot ahead of Louisville after the Cardinals lost two-straight games to Houston and Kentucky. Now, as the best ACC school behind Clemson, the Seminoles should be playing in the Orange Bowl.
Rose Bowl
Prediction: Wisconsin vs. Colorado
I have No. 6 Wisconsin defeating Penn State for the Big Ten championship, which would make it the conference's representative in the Rose Bowl.
Colorado was destined to play in Pasadena, California, no matter how it fared in the Pac-12 championship game on Friday against Washington.
Due to its No. 8 rating, Colorado would not have been able to jump any of the three Big Ten schools that are ranked ahead of it even if it had upset Washington's national title aspirations.
Colorado is still the best team in the Pac-12 behind the Huskies and should represent the conference at the Rose Bowl.
Cotton Bowl
Prediction: Western Michigan vs. Penn State
Coming out of the MAC, Western Michigan is the top-rated Group of 5 program after its 29-23 win over Ohio on Friday night and a well-deserved major bowl appearance will come about because of that conference title.
While it will likely be joined by Alabama after its SEC title game on Saturday, Western Michigan currently has the best record of all FBS programs at 13-0.
Now the Broncos can look ahead to a Cotton Bowl matchup with a Big Ten program like Penn State, which would be the best-remaining at-large program if it loses its conference championship game to Wisconsin.
Given where the Penn State program was a few years ago, a Cotton Bowl berth is a remarkable turnaround, even if it could have been so much more a couple of weeks ago.
Sugar Bowl
Prediction: Auburn vs. Oklahoma
If No. 15 Florida loses to Alabama in the SEC title game, which is likely given the Crimson Tide's domination this year, No. 14 Auburn will have a clear path to the Sugar Bowl as the No. 2 team in the SEC.
Granted, if Florida was to win, then the Gators would get the nod as Alabama would still retain a semifinal spot.
No. 9 Oklahoma on the other hand controls its own bowl destiny as it will meet in-state rival No. 10 Oklahoma State for the Big 12 title.
The Sugar Bowl is the Sooners' highest possible destination as there are far too many programs (Michigan, Wisconsin or Penn State and Colorado) that would get a semifinal spot if there was a stumble atop the rankings.
