EPL Results Week 11: Saturday's 2016 Premier League Scores, Top Scorers, Table

Tim DanielsNov 5, 2016

Chelsea headlined Saturday's five-game Premier League slate with a 5-0 statement victory over Everton. It's the latest sign the Blues are starting to find their stride under Antonio Conte after a lull in September that caused some concern at Stamford Bridge.

Elsewhere, late goals were the story of the day. Ashley Barnes scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to secure all three points for Burnley against Crystal Palace. And it was Marten de Roon finding the net in the 91st minute as Middlesbrough salvaged a draw with Manchester City.

Let's check out the complete list of matches and results from Saturday's play. That's followed by a look at the players who joined Barnes and De Roon on the scoresheet, the updated league standings and a recap of some key storylines from the day's action.

Saturday Recap

It didn't take long for Chelsea to take all of the suspense out of one of the week's most anticipated matches. Eden Hazard and Marcos Alonso scored just over a minute apart inside the opening half hour to give the Blues a 2-0 lead, and they never looked back.

ESPN Stats and Info spotlighted the 70 seconds of glory for the home side:

It's certainly not a question of talent for Chelsea. They have enough star power to chase down the Premier League title this season. And now those concerns about whether Conte could get all of the pieces to fit together are beginning to fade, too.

Of course, there's a lot of competition near the top of the standings right now. The key is avoiding another streak like they had in September where they went through a series of games without getting any wins. That's a recipe for a quick slide with so many clubs bunched together.

Although there's still plenty of time left in the campaign, Saturday's draw will be one of the results Manchester City lament if they come up a few points short in the title race. Letting two points slip away in the final moments at home against an opponent in the bottom half of the table is a setback.

City controlled a vast majority of the match. They held 71.1 percent of possession and generated 25 shots compared to just five for Middlesbrough. Only seven of those attempts were on target, however, as execution inside the attacking third was sorely lacking.

Jack Mumford of the club's official site passed along post-match comments from Pep Guardiola, who admitted the team's shortcomings, before painting a brighter picture for the future:

"

After the demanding game this week and the way we played, maybe the team can be tired in the last minutes. If we scored a second goal the game was over.

In the boxes we are not good enough but on the balance, how many chances you create is what you are going to see. We will improve.

"

Yet, whenever a club is unable to put an opponent away when they have the chance, bad things tend to happen when the focus shifts to defending late in the match. That's exactly what happened to City as Boro took full advantage of the chance to steal a point.

Sky Sports Statto noted that's becoming a trend when these two sides face off:

Burnley have proven themselves to be competitive following promotion, using Saturday's victory to vault into the top half of the table. It couldn't have happened in more dramatic fashion as Barnes struck just before the final whistle to cap an entertaining back-and-forth match.

The three-goal output is an encouraging sign for the Clarets, who had been struggling to find the net during the early stages of the term. If they can start generating more consistent offense, the back line has been good enough for them to string together some wins.

Gary Lineker of BBC Sports used their triumph to help highlight a terrific start to the Premier League week after some mundane matchdays over the first few months:

Looking ahead to Sunday's fixtures, the main event is the first match of the day with Arsenal and Tottenham trying to move up the standings with a win in the latest edition of the North London derby. A victory by the Gunners, who have been in fine form lately, would move them to the top.

Manchester United also face an intriguing test as they travel to Liberty Stadium to face 19th-place Swansea. These are the type of matches Jose Mourinho's squad must start winning if they have plans on getting back into the title conversation.
