Virginia Tech vs. Miami: Live Score, Highlights for Hokies vs. Hurricanes
Virginia Tech 37, Miami 16. Game Over.
With each coming off tough losses and needing a win for its ACC Coastal hopes, the Virginia Tech Hokies stomped the Miami Hurricanes at Lane Stadium.
Miami quarterback Brad Kaaya was sacked eight times as the Hokies were excellent defensively all night. Miami gained just 365 total yards on offense, including a measly 42 on the ground despite boasting a terrific rushing tandem in Mark Walton and Joseph Yearby.
On the other hand, Virginia Tech's balance wore out an injury-depleted Miami defense, as the Hokies had no issues moving the ball in the second half. Virginia Tech racked up 523 yards of offense, with 251 coming on the ground and 272 yards through the air.
Quarterback Jerrod Evans was smart with the ball while also finding some explosive plays. He finished 21-of-33 throwing for 259 yards and two touchdowns to go with 98 yards and a score rushing. On the other hand, Kaaya was hounded all night, but had decent numbers with 323 yards, one score and a pick.
Travon McMillian was the difference in the game, as he showed tremendous power and shiftiness. He set the tone with his running style, totaling 131 yards on 18 carries. Fullback Sam Rogers was also a star, catching two passes for 72 yards while also throwing a 13-yard touchdown pass to fellow fullback Steven Peoples.
With the win, Virginia Tech is now in control of the ACC Coastal at 3-1. It holds a tiebreaker over North Carolina, and the Hokies will go to Pittsburgh next week in a game that could really put them in the driver's seat in the division for the rest of the season.
Miami falls to 1-3 in conference with its third straight loss, which seemingly ends its chances of reaching the ACC title game. The Hurricanes will look to get back on track next week at Notre Dame.
