Analysis

Chelsea couldn't keep pace with league-leading Manchester City on Sunday, drawing at Liberty Stadium with Swansea City, 2-2. The point hardly seemed assured late in the second half, as Gylfi Sigurdsson's penalty conversion in the 59th minute and Leroy Fer's goal just three minutes later gave the hosts a 2-1 lead.
But Diego Costa came up with the equaliser late, as he always seems to do, drawing the game even with his second goal on a beautiful bicycle kick in the 81st minute.
Love him or hate him—there is seemingly no in-between—Costa continues to produce at an elite level for the Blues. But his two goals were of course accompanied by his third yellow card in four games and yet another flop, which in turn meant he was heartily booed by the Swansea supporters every time he touched the ball.
Former player and pundit Gary Lineker perhaps said it best:
Of greater concern to Chelsea, however, were the defense's struggles and the inconsistent play of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The former may be helped by signing defenders Marcos Alonso and David Luiz. The latter is a storm Chelsea agreed to sail through when they let Petr Cech go to Arsenal, and certainly Courtois remains one of the most promising young keepers in the world.
Nonetheless, Chelsea escaped with a point. Though they certainly wanted more, as manager Antonio Conte noted:
And so the Premier League table is about where you might expect it would be to start the season. Managers Pep Guardiola, Conte and Jose Mourinho have re-energized Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United, respectively, with those three teams atop the table.
Tottenham, who were Leicester City's biggest competition for much of last season until a late-season flop, are in fourth. Liverpool and Arsenal are nipping at their heels in fifth and sixth, respectively. Of the clubs that came into the season with legitimate title hopes this season, only Leicester City appear to be in real danger, with just four points in four games.
How slow has Leicester's start been?
Last year, they lost a total of three games. In four matches this year, they've already lost two. Of course, 2015-16 was an improbable campaign. Few will blame the Foxes for coming back down to earth this season.
Matchday 4 will be complete on Monday, with Everton facing Sunderland, before next week's slate of games kicks off next Friday with a compelling showdown between Chelsea and Liverpool in the premier matchup of Matchday 5.
