Gianni VerschuerenAug 21, 2016

West Ham United grabbed their first win of the 2016-17 Premier League season on Sunday, thanks to a late goal from Michail Antonio, beating Bournemouth 1-0 at the London Stadium.

The Hammers were far from perfect on their league debut in their new ground, but as shared by Bleacher Report UK, they were greatly aided by Harry Arter's red card in the 78th minute:

Recap

West Ham's first Premier League match at the London Stadium was far from an instant classic, as the Hammers and Cherries put together one of the least inspiring outings of Week 2.

The absence of Dimitri Payet, who is still working his way back to full fitness after UEFA Euro 2016, likely played a big role in the hosts' early struggles.

As shared by Squawka Football, West Ham's passing and crossing were wayward early, to say the least:

Bournemouth didn't show too many attacking intentions, either, and while the hosts had a few minor chances, a scoreless draw was the logical result at the break.

Squawka News perhaps put it best:

Play barely improved in the second half, but Arter's dismissal restored some life in the contest, and when the excellent Gokhan Tore picked out Valencia in front of goal, the West Ham fans finally had reason to celebrate.

Summer signing Jonathan Calleri missed a huge chance late on to double his team's advantage, but it hardly mattered, as the Cherries didn't come particularly close to an equaliser.

At the Stadium of Light, Stuani guided Middlesbrough to a 2-1 win over Sunderland, scoring twice to leave Boro's official Twitter account delighted:

The 29-year-old opened the score after just 13 minutes with a stunning strike and doubled Boro's advantage on the stroke of half-time.

Sunderland improved after the break but couldn't find a way through the defence until far too late. And while there were one or two scary scenes in front of the Middlesbrough goal after Van Aanholt's hit, the Black Cats couldn't earn a point.

Per Oscar Chamberlain of Sunderland's official website, manager David Moyes saw plenty of positives in the loss:

"

The fans were brilliant. I hope they understand it’s going to take time and we have some problems at the moment that we’re trying to make better.

The players who came in today because of injuries did a really good job.

In the second half I thought [Lynden] Gooch was terrific and Steven Pienaar did brilliantly after coming on; everyone stuck to it.

"

The Black Cats likely face another difficult season and a lengthy relegation battle, and these are the kind of matches the team simply has to win to avoid the drop. Middlesbrough are expected to be involved in a similar battle, but after two matchdays, they already have a four-point buffer.
