Rejuvenated Real Hits Form in Norway

Zidane's Real Madrid have lost once in pre-season.

Real's pre-season preparations got off to a sorry start after they lost 3-1 to Paris Saint-Germain in the 2016 International Champions Cup, but Los Merengues have since hit back with wins over Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

Manager Zinedine Zidane is in his first pre-season as Real Madrid chief, and he gave the club's official Twitter account his assessment of how the summer has gone:

However, Sevilla will be pleased that Real could be without numerous stars for the Super Cup encounter, with Cristiano Ronaldo definitely missing out, while Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema and Pepe could also be absent, per Goal's Ben Hayward.

However, Gareth Bale hasn't been completely ruled out yet and took to his official Twitter account stating his hope for a Madrid victory:

One silver lining of Real's pre-season has been the sensational form of youngster Marco Asensio, who could be afforded a starting chance against Sevilla after impressing so far.

Last season's Champions League winners are still gathering their full strength, but one can expect an in-form team to nevertheless give Sevilla a tough game.

It's been five months since Real and Sevilla last met in competition, and it was Zidane's men who notched a convincing 4-0 win over their Spanish foes in La Liga back in March.

However, it's also been two years since Los Blancos last won the UEFA Super Cup, against Sevilla of all teams, as pointed out by the capital club's official Twitter account:

Having lost star striker Kevin Gameiro to Atletico Madrid this summer, and with new arrivals Luciano Vietto and Wissam Ben Yedder still settling in, goals could be hard to come by for Sevilla.

As such, it's likely the club's new-look strike-force could struggle to piece itself together in Norway, although Vietto—on loan from Atletico Madrid—did impress with a debut goal in a recent 2-0 win over Granada.

Real still have much of their first-choice defence intact, and it's possible we could see a repeat result of the 2014 meeting between these two teams, particularly if Sevilla's away form continues to let them down in Trondheim.

Prediction: Real Madrid 2-0 Sevilla
