Real Madrid vs. PSG: Score and Reaction from 2016 ICC
Paris Saint-Germain picked up a 3-1 win over Real Madrid in the 2016 International Champions Cup on Wednesday at the Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
Jonathan Ikone opened the scoring, and Thomas Meunier provided two goals of his own to secure PSG's second victory of the ICC.
PSG didn't have to wait long for the first goal. Ikone weaved his way through the Madrid defense to put the French champions ahead in the second minute. The 18-year-old's run from midfield was impressive, but he also capitalized on some poor defending from Real Madrid and a couple of lucky bounces.

Marcelo, in particular, didn't cover himself in glory on the goal. The Madrid left back's attempted challenge failed horribly, which gave Ikone enough time to place his shot into the bottom left corner past Kiko Casilla.
But give Ikone credit for having the presence of mind to make the turn and then being confident enough to attack the defense. Bleacher Report's French football expert Jonathan Johnson tweeted how the teenager is already building a reputation in Europe:
The first half wasn't all good for Paris Saint-Germain. Center back Thiago Silva exited in the 11th minute after suffering an injury. The Brazilian appeared to hurt himself when making a tackle on Jese Rodriguez in the eighth minute that earned a yellow card.
Silva's departure had a silver lining, though, as Meunier came on and scored twice in the space of five minutes to put PSG ahead 3-0.
The Belgian defender made an interception about 25 yards from goal and proceeded to take a couple of touches before unleashing a left-footed shot that beat Casilla in the top left corner in the 35th minute. The ball looked to take a slight deflection off Madrid defender Nacho on its way to the back of the net.
Then, in the 40th minute, Meunier completed his brace. He initially attempted to pass the ball across goal to Edinson Cavani, but Raphael Varane intervened for the block. Luckily for PSG, the ball bounced back to Meunier, who had an easy finish for the goal.
The Columbus Dispatch's Tom Reed wondered if Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane would still have a job in the second half:
Serge Aurier committed a handball in the box in the 44th minute that allowed Madrid to get on the board before halftime. Marcelo's penalty thundered past a diving Kevin Trapp.
Zidane opted to change his entire lineup for the second half. Included among his second-half substitutes was his 21-year-old son, Enzo. He has big shoes to fill considering all his father accomplished at the club and international levels.
Martin Odegaard suited for Madrid as well in the second half. The Norwegian midfielder has fallen off the radar a bit after signing for Los Blancos in January 2015 when he was 16 years old. According to Carlos Forjanes of Spanish paper AS, the club will loan him out once they return to Spain this summer.
Football writer Kristan Heneage was impressed by the small glimpse he got of Odegaard on Wednesday:
Madrid were the stronger side the longer the match went on despite using a lineup that almost exclusively came from the reserve side.
PSG, on the other hand, looked to be going through the motions as manager Unai Emery removed his biggest stars from the game.
Neither team performed exceptionally. Zidane and Emery were focused on getting their players back to match fitness ahead of their respective domestic campaigns. For the former France international, the friendly was a particularly good experiment to see some of the talent coming through the Madrid Castilla.
Madrid will travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan, for their next match in the International Champions Cup. They take on Chelsea on Saturday, while PSG face off with Leicester City at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, on the same day.
Post-Match Reaction
"Initially we struggled to adapt, but we ended up growing into the game and the performance wasn't that bad," said Madrid goalkeeper Ruben Yanez, who replaced Casilla for the second half, per the club's official site. "In the second half we did a great job, we managed to adapt to the opposition. Preseason is all about hard work and building your fitness."
"We've been back training for a week and this is our first game," said forward Lucas Vazquez. "This match allows us to build on our confidence and fitness levels, as we look to keep on improving."
"Overall, we saw two teams that need to keep working, work on things this preseason, players getting more minutes," said Emery, per the Lantern's Nick Clarkson. "I think today, for us, was about work. Obviously we want to win and we play to win, but we will continue working, and focus on growing things."
