Indian Premier Futsal League 2016 Final: Mumbai vs. Kochi Score, Reaction
Mumbai were crowned the inaugural Premier Futsal League champions on Sunday, defeating Kochi 3-2 on penalties after drawing 1-1 in normal time at Goa's Peddem Sports Complex.
Kochi looked likely to take the top prize themselves after a first-quarter opener from Deives Moraes separated the two teams until the late stages of the final.

However, Angellot rose as the last-gasp hero for Mumbai and diverted home a dramatic equaliser in the final moments of the fourth quarter to force a penalty shootout.
Marquee players Ryan Giggs (Mumbai) and Michel Salgado (Kochi) each saw their spot kicks saved during the showdown, but Mumbai goalkeeper Luis Amado and Jo Paul Bence both netted to salvage the win, per Premier Futsal:
The result also meant Mumbai further demonstrated their superiority to Kochi, having bounced back from a 4-1 opening defeat to their Group A opponents with a 6-4 win after their second encounter.
Mumbai ended up topping Group A, while Kochi had to settle for the runner-up spot. The two teams looked as though they were poised for another feisty duel early on in Sunday's meeting:
The attacking partnership of Deives and Chaguinha has worked wonders for Kochi in the 2016 tournament, netting 14 of their 17 goals leading up to the final, and it was no surprise to see the duo craft the opener.
Just as it had so often worked wonders prior to Sunday's collision, Chaguinha drifted wide of the goal to create space in the middle, and an onrushing Deives was on hand to nudge Kochi ahead:
Unfortunately for the neutrals, that proved to be the only strike from open play for two more quarters, although the second and third were still entertaining in themselves.
French freestyler Sean Garnier in particular was helpful in ensuring that there was plenty on the pitch to get excited about, despite a lack of goal action:
It wasn't until the dying minutes of normal time that Giggs' Mumbai finally reaped the reward of all their endeavour up until that point, with Angellot grabbing the crucial strike.
Rohith Nair of Indian outlet Sportskeeda highlighted it was Kochi's retreated tactics that meant they were only to blame for their own demise:
It was only fitting that such a sensational tournament came to its end under a dramatic headline, and the penalty shootout ensured just that, as three players from each side attempted to score from nine yards out.
Some found their fortune while shooting on their first time, while others benefited from dribbling toward goal, but the goalkeeping pair of Amado and Bence opted to blast away, and it paid dividends, per Sony Six:
And just as Mumbai's stoppers thrived, it was almost a twist of fate that Kochi keeper Casalone missed with his spot-kick attempt and his side were forced to settle for a silver medal.
The 2016 Indian Premier Futsal League came to an end on Sunday, and fans are sure to be waiting in anticipation of what's next to come from the competition.
