Portugal vs. France: Live Stream, Odds and Form Guide for Euro 2016 Final

Tom SunderlandJul 9, 2016

France will head into their Euro 2016 final against Portugal on Sunday as firm favourites to clinch the continental title on home soil, but a defiant opponent has the capacity to spring a surprise in Paris.

Les Bleus are hoping to become the first host nation in more than three decades to win a European Championship since they themselves performed the feat in 1984, when they defeat Spain 2-0 in the capital.

While manager Didier Deschamps' side have looked confident and ousted Germany from the tournament in their semi-final, Portugal's 2-0 beating of Wales was their first win over 90 minutes in the competition.

France to Win Both Halves: 5-1

France won each half 1-0 in their semi-final victory over Germany.

While their defence has been suspect at times during the tournament, France's attack has blazed its way to Euro 2016 contention over the past month, with Antoine Griezmann the competition's current top scorer (six goals).

The hosts shoulder a heavy burden to go out on Sunday and deliver against manager Fernando Santos' side, but Simon Gleave of Gracenote Sports illustrated how they're already standing up to pressure:

Ex-Marseille midfielder Joey Barton has also touched upon the always-helpful influence that luck might have had on their campaign, particularly in the 2-0 semi-final defeat of Die Mannschaft:

Fortunate or not, however, goals either side of half-time from Griezmann ensured France won both halves at the Stade Velodrome, and Oddschecker has Deschamps' men at 5-1 to repeat the feat in Paris.

As the competition has wore on, France have found it easier to get off the mark earlier compared to a somewhat sluggish group campaign, while Portugal have struggled for goals at times in general.

Portugal to Win to Nil: 5-1

As was shown in the 2-0 semi-final win over Wales, positional integrity will be crucial for Portugal if they are to complete their upset over the French, with midfield all-rounder Renato Sanches a crucial key in that formula.

If Santos' side are to emerge with the trophy in tow, it seems only too likely nullifying France's attack will be the route to doing so, and Sport Witness described the unity that's led them to impress at Euro 2016:

It's also a crucial factor that Real Madrid centre-back Pepe has been back in training prior to the final, and UEFA's Joseph Walker highlighted his importance to the cause after missing the semi-final victory:

The Portuguese were at their most convincing against Wales in Lyon, but Sunday's matchup is likely to be a far more turgid affair, relying largely on lengthy spells without the ball.

Portugal are at 5-1 to win the match to nil in 90 minutes, per Oddschecker, and while that result may seem unlikely, one could say the same about the nation's entire run to the final.
