Portugal vs. Wales

Despite their contrasting form, it won't come as much of a surprise that the top candidates to score first in Portugal's clash with Wales are Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale at 11-4 and 4-1, respectively, per Oddschecker.

Per Sky Sports News HQ, Bale rejected the notion that the contest will boil down to himself and his Real Madrid team-mate going head-to-head:

Nevertheless, their performances could have a huge impact on the game—should one shine and the other fail, there's a good chance the former's team will progress.

Bale has netted three times in the competition so far, bagging a goal in each of the group games—two of which were to open the scoring.

Ronaldo has two, grabbing both in the final group game with Hungary, but he has otherwise been unusually profligate—particularly against Poland in the last round as he squandered countless opportunities he would normally score.

Nevertheless, the Mirror's John Cross believes he deserves praise for his efforts:

The Portugal star has a habit of defying his critics and, aside from Cross, has earned a lot of them over the course of the tournament, so it wouldn't come as a huge shock if he were to find the net once more.

Bale has been more consistently dangerous, though, and Portugal are yet to win a match in regulation time—he and the Dragons shouldn't be counted out.

Germany vs. France

Les Bleus have been the most potent team at the tournament with 11 goals, in no small part due to the outstanding form of Antoine Griezmann, Dimitri Payet and Olivier Giroud.

The tournament's official Twitter feed revealed just how effective the trio have been:

According to Oddschecker, Giroud is the favourite to score first against Germany at 11-2, while Griezmann is 6-1 and Payet is 8-1—the latter perhaps due to being the team's playmaker rather than primary outlet up front.

Giroud and Griezmann have opened the scoring twice apiece at the Euros, and they seem to be safe options to do so again.

The latter in particular has shined in the knockout stages, bagging a brace against the Republic of Ireland before producing this exceptional finish in the 5-2 thrashing of Iceland, per BBC Sport:

Thomas Muller is the joint-favourite to open the scoring alongside Giroud, and his unrivalled ability to find space makes him a threat against just about any opposition.

However, the Bayern Munich forward is yet to score at the tournament, and his side haven't set the tournament alight in an attacking sense.

Based on their current momentum and goalscoring form, France seem the more likely to grab the first goal and perhaps come out on top, though it's likely to be a close game.
