Copa America Schedule 2016: Tuesday Group Live Stream, TV Info and Odds

Gianni VerschuerenJun 14, 2016

Defending champions Chile and Panama will do battle for the final 2016 Copa America Centenario knockout-stage ticket still up for grabs in Group D, as Argentina have already locked up their spot in the next round entering Tuesday's clash with Bolivia.

The Albiceleste will likely rest a handful of starters, as they're all-but assured of top spot in the group. Second-placed Chile would have to beat Panama by seven goals or more to overtake Argentina should they lose to the Bolivians.

Tuesday's other clash will be a big one, however. Chile are expected to beat or draw with Panama and join Argentina in the knockout stages, but as Peru showed against Brazil, there are no guarantees in a winner-takes-all contest like this.

Preview

On paper―and per the oddsmakers―Chile should cruise to a win against Panama, a team that has never qualified for a World Cup or won a Gold Cup.

Conventional wisdom says a team without a single star who plays for a major European club should be no match for the reigning Copa America champions, who field some of the best players in the world.

However, the same things were said before Peru knocked Brazil out of the tournament in shocking―and controversial―fashion on Monday night.

Like Brazil, Chile have yet to find their best form in this year's tournament, losing to last year's finalists Argentina and needing a late penalty to beat winless Bolivia.

Fox Soccer analysts Fernando Fiore and Alexi Lalas couldn't agree whether the penalty was the right decision:

Manager Juan Antonio Pizzi knew full well his team escaped a major catastrophe when he spoke to reporters after the final whistle, and he urged his players to step up their game, per Goal's Matthew Galea: "We need to improve some things, but we have to keep believing we can achieve this improvement and we can impose our game."

Star players Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez, who played big roles in Chile's run to the title last year, haven't been nearly as dominant in 2016. The strain of a long campaign in Europe appears to have taken its toll, and of the two teams, Panama certainly seem the freshest.

Fortunately for Chile, they'll come up against a weakened Panama squad―per Fox Soccer, the amount of suspensions they're dealing with is staggering:

Star forward Blas Perez of Vancouver Whitecaps won't be playing for Panama, and the same goes for Anibal Godoy, who was sent off against Argentina. Both are major losses for the CONCACAF side, and a strong reason to back Chile to win.

Unlike Peru, who have a rich history of doing well at the Copa America and a handful of star players, including the prolific Paolo Guerrero, Panama don't have the raw talent or the depth to cope with key absentees.

Chile have experience on their side, and while they've been far from their best so far, Pizzi's troops have a tendency to switch gears when needed.

Meanwhile, there will be little left on the line for Argentina and Bolivia, who will do battle after the first Group D clash.

As a result, Lionel Messi and his team-mates will already know whether or not they need to gain a point from their match, and in all likelihood, there won't be any reason for the Albiceleste to play their best or take any risks.

This gives Bolivia the perfect opportunity to earn their first point of the tournament, but given their dreadful form, even that might be a bet punters would rather stay away from.
