Thompson Sets NBA Playoff Record with 11 3-Pointers Made
Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson set an NBA playoff record with his 11 three-pointers in Saturday's 108-101 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, becoming the first player to convert double-digit three-pointers in a postseason game, per ESPN Stats & Info.
With his team in a 3-2 series hole and playing Game 6 on the road, Thompson stepped up at the best time possible and drained 11 of his 18 three-point attempts (also a record) on his way to a game-high 41 points.
Though remarkable from distance, Thompson converted just three of his 13 tries from inside the arc, and he contributed only four rebounds, a block and a steal, with no assists and a single turnover.
Of course, even with his ancillary contributions minimal, Thompson was the key player in Saturday's game, with 19 of his points and five of his treys coming in a fourth quarter that saw Golden State outscore Oklahoma City by a 33-18 margin.
Thompson got a big hand from back-to-back MVP Stephen Curry, who had 31 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists, two steals and three turnovers, just barely missing out on a triple-double.
While just one rebound shy of securing his own triple-double, Thunder guard Russell Westbrook sullied an otherwise solid outing when he committed four of his five turnovers during the final 100 seconds of the game.
Thunder forward Kevin Durant wasn't much better, as he made just one of his seven field-goal attempts in the fourth quarter while committing two turnovers of his own.
OKC will now have to beat the Warriors on the road in Game 7, just as it did in Game 1 of the series, when it became the first team to win at Golden State this postseason.
