Ecuador will present the U.S. men's national soccer team with a difficult hurdle to jump over Wednesday as the Copa America hosts tune up to present the tournament.
The Stars and Stripes do not hold a good record against the powerful and quick Ecuadorian unit, currently holding a record of 2-5-5, according to U.S. Soccer's official website.
However, the Americans have only been defeated once when playing at the Toyota Stadium, dating back 10 years, per U.S. Soccer.
The two teams met in a friendly in the United States in 2014, playing out a 1-1 draw after strikes from Mix Diskerud (USA) and West Ham United's Enner Valencia (Ecuador).
Here are highlights from the match:
USMNT's Copa preparations began well after they defeated Puerto Rico 3-1 on their recent travels.
Paul Arriola netted on his senior debut for the American side, outpacing his marker in the second half and smartly tapping home after goalkeeper Matthew Sanchez was exposed—allowing the Tijuana player to take the plaudits.
U.S. Soccer provided footage of the debutant's effort:
First-half goals from Tim Ream and Bobby Wood set up the win for manager Jurgen Klinsmann as the United States hopes to progress deep into the Copa America against world-class opposition.
Commentator Ian Darke highlighted the threat of Wednesday's opponents in Texas:

Klinsmann has urged DeAndre Yedlin to continue his strong form after a good season in the Premier League, challenging the player to show his advancement against Ecuador.
The 22-year-old starred for Sunderland on loan from Tottenham Hotspur as the Black Cats avoided relegation to the Championship division.
The German coach told ESPN (h/t Four Four Two):
"We're thrilled about his season because he broke through at Sunderland and Sunderland's not an easy spot to play at, especially when they're fighting relegation.
I think for DeAndre this was a big learning year and made him stronger, made him better and hopefully also more confident. With what he's going through, he's still a very young player and it couldn't have gone any better during the season.
Most importantly, Sunderland were not relegated. They saved themselves and he played a vital role in that with an awesome coach, Sam Allardyce, so he gets a big confidence boost and now he has to confirm this good form at the Copa America.
"

The versatile defender made 23 appearances in the Premier League last season, according to Squawka.com, gaining vital experience in one of the world's toughest club competitions.
Ecuador will be hoping to restore a modicum of confidence on Wednesday after a draw with Paraguay and a defeat to Colombia ended their perfect start to World Cup qualifying in March.
Manager Gustavo Quinteros' side are expected to progress into the later rounds of the Copa, ahead of the weaker nations of Peru and Haiti, and the USMNT will give them enough resistance to help them find their best form.
However, the Ecuadorians are historically inconsistent at the best of times, and the United States will be able to taste victory before the match—knowing they have a hungry team ready for tournament action on home soil.
