England vs. Turkey: Score, Reaction from 2016 International Friendly
England defeated Turkey 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Sunday night, as the Three Lions edged a poor match in the north west.
Goals from Harry Kane and Hakan Calhanoglu levelled the scores early in the game, but both sides struggled to take the contest by the throat in a slow-paced affair.
It was left to Jamie Vardy to score a late winner as England doubled their advantage with a scrappy finish.

The recent Europa League and FA Cup final action ensured the absence of individuals from Liverpool and Manchester United, as manager Roy Hodgson partnered Kane with Vardy at the point of the attack.
Oliver Kay of the Times commented on the Leicester City hitman's inclusion:
John Stones started alongside Gary Cahill at centre-back, with Kyle Walker deployed at right-back. Eric Dier anchored the midfield, with Dele Alli and Jack Wilshere slightly advanced of the Tottenham Hotspur defensive entity.
Turkey were without talisman Arda Turan, who was on Spanish cup duty for Barcelona.

The Three Lions made the perfect start as Kane's hot goal streak continued. The Spurs striker found the back of the net after only three minutes, as England obtained the lead.
Alli found Kane in acres of space in the box, and the north London connection reaped the dividend.
England shared the moment on social media via their official Twitter account:

Turkey levelled the scores to the moans of the Mancunian crowd, as Calhanoglu found the goal that the visitors craved just 10 minutes later.
The Bayer Leverkusen magician took advantage of a mistake from Danny Rose and slotted past goalkeeper Joe Hart with ease.
Opta Can highlighted the significance of the strike for the away side:

Despite starting the game brightly, England failed to turn the game back in their favour before half-time, as Turkey edged possession in a dull atmosphere.
WhoScored.com provided the vital stats as the referee blew his whistle for the break:
England continued to struggle to produce true momentum as Hodgson switched to a diamond in midfield, but Turkey appeared more composed than the hosts.
The Three Lions sank deeper in defence as the opposition penetrated, and the England coach was glum in his technical area when prompted to his feet.
Matt Hughes of the Times took a swipe at the English back four ahead of their Euro 2016 campaign:
Wilshere was subbed shortly after the hour mark after making his return to the international arena, making way for Jordan Henderson.
The uninspiring nature of the contest continued as the end-of-season flavour refused to dissipate into the final minutes, but the game exploded into life, as a fast break from Vardy earned his team a penalty after Mehmet Topal hauled him down.
However, the groans were evident again, as Kane stepped up and hit the outside of the post, holding his head in his hands.
BBC Sport's Gary Lineker called the action while tipping his hat to Vardy's threat:

England played with more intent in the last 15 minutes as they hunted a winner; Turkey began to tire and had lost their ability to remain composed in the centre.
Henderson's influence was key for Hodgson late in the day, and the Liverpool midfielder looked keen to impress his manager.
The crucial strike came from Vardy after 82 minutes as the Foxes player struck the ball home from a rebound.
Vardy was quickest to react and made no doubt of his goal, smashing home from an acute angle.
Despite the result, it was a disappointing start to England's preparations for the Euros, as the side looked jaded and inhibited in their performance levels.
Both Vardy and Kane maintained the goal threat for their nation, but Wayne Rooney will not be frightened by what he saw from his competition for a starting berth.
The captain is likely to find himself in a deeper role after his pivotal display for United in the FA Cup final, and he is an automated pick for Hodgson after an upturn in form.
Post-Match Reaction
Hodgson said he believes the battle for a starting berth will increase as the missing members of his squad arrive, per Paul Hayward of the Daily Telegraph:
England host their next friendly match when they play Australia on Friday.
