Altidore's Diagnosis, Recovery Timeline Revealed

Monday, May 16

Kurtis Larson of the Toronto Sun reported Altidore will miss six to eight weeks after being diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring injury.

Altidore Once Again Dealing with Hamstring Injury

The injury occurred in the first half, when Altidore went down in the box, drawing a penalty. He missed the ensuing chance from the spot and exited the match after that, per Ives Galarcep of SBISoccer.com.

Altidore has dealt with hamstring injuries throughout his career.

In 2011, he suffered a hamstring injury during the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which forced him to miss the semifinals and final.

At the 2014 World Cup, he again went down in the United States' opening match against Ghana in the group stage, which held him out for the remainder of the tournament.

It continued to plague him through 2015, when he missed more than a month of play, and into 2016.

Altidore has two goals in nine MLS matches this season, but the U.S. men's national team will feel his absence the most if he is unable to play in the Copa America Centenario, which will pit the best sides in CONCACAF (North America) and CONMEBOL (South America) against one another.

The 26-year-old has already earned 93 caps with the national team and scored 34 goalsonly 23 goals off Landon Donovan's all-time record.

Altidore holds the U.S. record with five consecutive appearances in which he recorded a goal. He's shown great awareness in the box along with strong aerial abilities and a finishing touch that makes him invaluable to the United States.

If he's unable to go at the Copa America, more pressure will be heaped on to Clint Dempsey in the attack, where he could be supported by anyone ranging from Chris Wondolowski to Bobby Wood and Gyasi Zardes, among others.
