Granada vs. Barcelona: Winners and Losers from La Liga

Joe TanseyMay 14, 2016

Barcelona won their second consecutive La Liga title on Saturday as they downed Granada 3-0.

Luis Suarez found the back of the net on three occasions to hit the 40-goal mark in league play. The Uruguayan forward secured the Pichichi with his efforts in front of goal.

Luis Enrique's men finished the season one point ahead of Real Madrid, who were also victorious on Saturday against Deportivo La Coruna.

Here's a look at our winners and losers from Barca's title-clinching win in Granada.

Winner: Luis Suarez

1 of 5

Luis Suarez secured Barcelona's second consecutive league title and his first Pichichi with a pair of first-half strikes.

The Uruguay international pounced for the first tally of the contest in the 22nd minute as he tapped in Jordi Alba's cross from the left wing. Suarez benefited from strong full-back play again in the 38th minute, when he headed home Dani Alves' pass from the right side of the penalty area.

The Uruguayan concluded his league season in style in the 86th minute as he completed a hat-trick for the visitors.

The 29-year-old finished off the league campaign with 14 goals in his final five contests to beat out Cristiano Ronaldo for the Pichichi.

Loser: Andres Fernandez

2 of 5

Andres Fernandez made a few standout denials throughout the 90 minutes for Granada, but he didn't do enough to thrust his side into the role of spoiler.

Fernandez was caught out of position on both of Barcelona's first-half goals due to the tremendous movement of the players surging forward into the box.

The 29-year-old kept the match competitive with a few more saves in the second half, but it was not enough to help switch the momentum in his team's favor.

Winner: Dani Alves

3 of 5

Alves produced one of the two splendid individual full-back efforts in the buildup to Suarez's first-half strikes.

The right-back chased down Javier Mascherano's long ball in the 38th minute before it crossed the end line in order to provide Suarez with a nice assist from the right side of the box.

The full-back's effort on the second goal allowed Barca to breathe easy throughout the final stretches of the match.

After closing out the victory in the second half, the Catalan side were able to celebrate their 24th league championship and sixth title in eight years.

Loser: Youssef El-Arabi

4 of 5

The only chance Granada had to stop Barca's momentum on Saturday was to play the ball in the direction of Youssef El-Arabi and hope he'd create something.

That did not happen during the forward's 77-minute shift, as he failed to make any type of impact on the match.

The best move forward produced by the 29-year-old came on a breakaway in the 10th minute, but he sent a soft shot in Barca goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen's direction.

Winner: Jordi Alba

5 of 5

Jordi Alba picked apart the Granada defense in the 22nd minute in the seconds before Suarez's initial tally.

The left-back played a nice give-and-go with Neymar on the left side of the pitch that ended with a beautiful overlapping run by the 27-year-old.

Alba opened up the back four with his pass to Neymar, and by the time he was ready to set up Suarez, he had plenty of space to work with.

The assist was the sixth of the season for Alba, who also helped the Barca back line end the league season with a clean sheet.
