Sir Alex Ferguson Holds Meeting with Mauricio Pochettino

Matt JonesMay 11, 2016

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino was snapped meeting with former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson in Mayfair, London, on Tuesday lunchtime.

As reported by Kieran Gill of the MailOnline, the two men, as well as Tottenham assistant manager Jesus Perez, were captured leaving Scott's Restaurant in the capital.

The Spurs boss has since admitted meeting with the former Red Devils chief was a very special moment for him.

"For me, it was a dream come true," he said, per Stephen Turner of Sky Sports. "When I was young, when I started my career as a manager, he was always my inspiration, my reference and when you can share two hours with a person who, for me, was the greatest manager in the world, the history of football, you can only enjoy."

There has been some speculation Pochettino could take over from Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal in the future, per Gill. But, according to the piece, the meeting was arranged due to a “mutual admiration from both sides,” with Spurs said to be aware of the fact their boss was dining with Ferguson.

As noted by Gill, Ferguson has previously been quoted calling the former Southampton manager “fantastic,” having also stated “the way his team play is a testimony to the work he is doing.”

The iconic United manager retired from the game in 2013, having won a staggering 13 league titles with the Red Devils, as well as the Champions League on two occasions.

Pochettino’s Tottenham team may have fallen short in pursuit of top spot this season, losing ground to surprise winners Leicester City late on. But it’ll encourage Spurs supporters, with hopes of another Premier League push in 2016-17, to see their boss meeting with the man who masterminded so many triumphs in such an unforgiving division.
