Premier League Results: Latest Table, Odds After Sunday's Week 37 Scores

Tom SunderlandMay 8, 2016

Manchester United's hopes of claiming a top-four finish in the Premier League were boosted on Sunday after Manchester City and Arsenal drew 2-2 at the Etihad Stadium in the latest leg of a hectic Week 37 schedule.

The Citizens led twice on home turf thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne, but Arsenal responded in brave fashion and managed to seal a point thanks to the efforts of Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud.

Earlier on Sunday, Southampton struck back from a 1-0 deficit to beat Spurs 2-1 thanks to Steven Davis' double. Son Heung-Min opened the scoring early on, but the north Londoners ultimately fell to a third successive league match without a win.

Red Devils Revel in City Slump

Although manager Louis van Gaal's men don't return to the pitch until Tuesday, Sunday's results turned out well for Manchester United as their Champions League fate fell into their own hands.

The Telegraph's James Ducker spelled out exactly what United need to do in order to clinch fourth spot and head into next season's Champions League:

Sunday's match was manager Manuel Pellegrini's last game at the Citizens helm before stepping aside for Pep Guardiola this summer, but football writer Neil Bernstein noted the Etihad was far from full for his farewell:

City have just one game remaining in their season and travel to Swansea City next Sunday, a fixture which has just become a must-win matchup considering their expectations.

United, meanwhile, will look to Tuesday's trip to West Ham as their only priority for the time being, although they could still drop points in east London and still have a chance at finishing fourth.

Southampton Topple Toiling Tottenham

Tottenham's chances of sealing a second-place Premier League finish lie in serious doubt after the north Londoners surrendered a 1-0 lead to fall 2-1 at home to an in-form Southampton outfit.

Manager Ronald Koeman brought the Saints to White Hart Lane on the back of a four-match unbeaten streak, and Steven Davis' brace led them to claiming another major victory. MailOnline's Adam Crafton listed Southampton, and Koeman's, incredible form in 2016:

A three-point haul lifted Southampton into sixth place, but Tottenham's defeat also means they have now gone three matches without a win and are that much closer within reach of third-place Arsenal as a result.

Yahoo's Andrew Gaffney touched on Tottenham's capitulation toward season's end. They end their season at Newcastle United next Sunday, while Arsenal face a far simpler home clash against relegated Aston Villa:

Southampton have enjoyed a terrific end-of-season run-in and are now in pole position to clinch a sixth-place finish and Europa League qualification, with European finalists Liverpool their biggest rivals in that regard.

Following Sunday's win over Watford, the Reds now face clashes against Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion, while Koeman's upstarts end their term at home to Crystal Palace, with only two points separating the pair.
