Recap

Sunderland, without question, were the biggest winners on the day. Trailing 2-1 at the half against Chelsea, the Black Cats fought back with second-half tallies from Fabio Borini and Jermain Defoe, clawing their way out of the relegation zone (at least for the moment) in the process and earning a 3-2 win.
That put the club in the driver's seat to stave off relegation, as a win against Everton in their next contest will guarantee a return to the Premier League for the 2016-17 campaign.
"It’s a wonderful result for us," Sam Allardyce said after the match, per Lawrence Ostlere of the Guardian. "One thing we do know is that it’s in our hands. Hopefully we can achieve our goal on Wednesday night [against Everton]. Since the turn of the year we’ve been so near yet so far from so many victories, yet today we’ve come back to a winning position twice.”
Newcastle and Norwich City weren't so fortunate.
The former couldn't find the decisive moment in a scoreless draw against the Premier League's worst club this season, Aston Villa. That left the Magpies manager, Rafa Benitez, disappointed after the match, per Ostlere:
"Really disappointed, not just because of three points but also Sunderland. Now we have to wait. We have to wait, see what they do in the week, and after try to win our game. We were not comfortable in possession, we had some good chances but at this level and when you need points you have to take your chances, and we didn’t do it.
"
Match of the Day broke down the difference between Sunderland and Newcastle on a day when both clubs desperately needed three points:
Norwich City, meanwhile, couldn't so much as manage a point. Juan Mata's 72nd-minute goal—assisted by Wayne Rooney's deft show of patience on the counter-attack—was enough for United to steal all three points with a 1-0 victory.
That left only Sunderland to control their fate with two matches remaining, though Norwich City—which trails the Black Cats by four points—has two matches of their own to attempt to piece together an epic finish to stave off relegation.
Norwich City will almost assuredly need to win their final two contests to save their season, as a win and a draw and two Sunderland losses likely won't be enough, as Sunderland currently holds a significant advantage in goal differential.
Newcastle has just one match remaining, and based on current goal differential, it's safe to bet that only a win and some help will guarantee the Magpies a place in the Premier League next season.
United's win, meanwhile, left them just a point behind Manchester City for fourth place on the EPL table and four points behind Arsenal in third. All three teams have two matches remaining in the quest for Champions League football. United lead West Ham by four points in fifth place, meanwhile, with a Europa League spot hanging in the balance (though United can clinch that by winning the FA Cup).
West Ham blew three crucial points against Swansea City on Saturday, losing 4-1, and making the likelihood of them finishing fourth extremely slim, as the Telegraph humorously noted:
If Manchester City remain in the top four, however, West Ham can clinch a Europa League place by remaining in sixth since Manchester City earned an automatic qualification to the Europa League by winning the Capital One Cup but would qualify for the Champions League by finishing in the top four.
And Chelsea's loss completely eliminated them from any shot at European football next season. There was a chance coming into Saturday, however slight, that Chelsea could land in seventh place and sneak their way into the Europa League, according to Liam Corless of the Mirror. Saturday's loss guaranteed that Chelsea could finish no higher than ninth on the table, however.
Leicester City showed little hangover after clinching the title midweek, meanwhile, easily dispatching of Everton 3-1 in a match that's only drama was whether Jamie Vardy would earn a hat-trick and equal Harry Kane's 25 league goals (he had the opportunity to do so but skied a second-half penalty, settling for the brace).
In other results, Swansea City hammered West Ham, 4-1, while West Brom and Bournemouth played to a 1-1 draw.
