Liverpool Transfer News: Joe Hart Rumours Sparked by Marc-Andre ter Stegen Talk
May 4, 2016
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly "keen" to take Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart to Anfield in the summer if incoming Sky Blues boss Pep Guardiola shows the Englishman the exit door.
According to France Football (via Charlie Phillippe in the Express), Guardiola wants to replace Hart at the Etihad Stadium with long-touted Reds target Marc-Andre ter Stegen of Barcelona, and Klopp will make a move for the 29-year-old should he become available.
Liverpool have long been linked with a number of goalkeeping targets as their current No. 1 Simon Mignolet is frustratingly error-prone.
The Belgian stopper has been responsible for a number of dropped points this season and is one of the key weak links in Klopp's side as he looks to make Liverpool title challengers again, per the Telegraph's Ali Tweedale:
Ter Stegen has been linked with a move to Anfield for some time as he is dissatisfied with his lack of game time at Barcelona, per the Liverpool Echo's Joe Rimmer.
However, if Guardiola is keen on the German goalkeeper, then Liverpool may miss out on signing him as City have the financial heft to persuade the 24-year-old to move to the Etihad.
It could be a blessing in disguise, though, for Liverpool if it means they can sign Hart, who is already a hugely experienced Premier League goalkeeper and a two-time Premier League title winner.
He has been one of the best goalkeepers in the top flight this season and would be a significant upgrade on Mignolet, per WhoScored.com:
Having not yet reached his 30s, Hart still could have a decade left at the top level and looks to only now be reaching his peak.
He has been vital for City in the UEFA Champions League this season and was excellent as they played out a 0-0 draw with Real Madrid in the first leg of their semi-final tie last week, per Bleacher Report's Sam Tighe:

Indeed, so good has Hart been this season that it would be an odd move from Guardiola to move him on from City when he comes in as manager this summer.
If he does, though, Liverpool should look to secure the England No. 1's signature as he would improve Klopp's current side.
