EPL Table: 2016 Week 36 Top Scorers After Sunday's Premier League Scores

Gianni VerschuerenMay 1, 2016

Sadio Mane stole the show with a hat-trick in Southampton’s 4-2 win over Manchester City during Sunday’s Premier League action, while Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane remains the league's top scorer after Week 36.

The England international will be in action on Monday when Spurs take on Chelsea. Manager Mauricio Pochettino’s men locked up UEFA Champions League football for next year following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City and Man City’s loss, but unless they beat the Blues on Monday, the title will go to the Foxes.

Sergio Aguero didn’t play for City, who rested their top stars with an eye on the Champions League match with Real Madrid, and Jamie Vardy was suspended for Leicester. Here’s a look at Sunday’s results:

Recap

With none of the Premier League’s top scorers in action on Sunday, several other players stole the show, and no one made a bigger impression than Mane.

As shared by Bleacher Report UK, the forward put together a fantastic show to lift his team past City:

The Citizens were without the likes of Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and Vincent Kompany, and it showed, but that shouldn’t take away from Mane’s superb showing. He and Dusan Tadic bossed the proceedings in the attacking third and routinely beat their marker, and Saints could have scored more than four goals.

Kelechi Iheanacho flashed his talent as well, bagging a brace, and per Squawka Football, his numbers on the season look fantastic:

Unlike some of the Premier League’s other star breakout youngsters, like Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford of rivals United, Iheanacho hasn’t been asked to be a regular starter; Aguero will start the bulk of City’s matches.

That has resulted in less attention for the Nigerian, but the 19-year-old has arguably been just as good as the two United youngsters, and he’s in line for a huge breakout season in the 2016-17 campaign.

MANCHESTER, UNITED KINGDOM - MAY 01: Claudio Ranieri, manager of Leicester City talks to Anthony Martial of Manchester United after the Barclays Premier League match between Manchester United and Leicester City at Old Trafford on May 1, 2016 in Mancheste

Martial also got his name on the scoresheet in United’s 1-1 draw against Leicester, but Wes Morgan found an early equaliser for the Foxes. The 1-1 draw leaves the Red Devils four points behind City, albeit with a match in hand.

Danny Drinkwater received a late red card for a foul on Memphis Depay right on the edge of the box, and plenty of fans and pundits thought the hosts should have been awarded a penalty.

Per Sky Sports News HQ, so did manager Louis van Gaal, and not just for the late incident:

Andre Ayew also bagged a brace, leading Swansea City to a 3-1 win over Liverpool and all but ending the Reds’ hopes of finishing in the European slots in the process.

Liverpool can still qualify for the Champions League by winning the Europa League, however, and will meet Villarreal on Thursday in the second leg of their semifinal clash, needing to turn around a 1-0 deficit.
