La Liga Results 2016 Week 35: Final Scores, Latest Table and Odds After Saturday
La Liga's top three were all in action on Saturday, and Atletico Madrid briefly seized control of the title race with a tight 1-0 win over Malaga at the Vicente Calderon. But their joy was short-lived when Barcelona followed that by smashing six past Sporting Gijon at the Camp Nou to regain top spot.
Barca remain favourites with the oddsmakers, even though the odds are still relatively short for Atleti to lift their second title in three years at the end of the season.
But city neighbours Real remain hot on the heels of manager Diego Simeone's team after a stunning comeback away at Rayo Vallecano. Gareth Bale inspired a Cristiano Ronaldo-less Los Blancos team that was down 2-0 in no time at all.

Thanks to Bale, the club from the other half of Madrid now sees their odds for the title staying short in this tight, three-way race.

Barca Ignoring Pressure from Madrid
Atleti put the pressure on Barca but were made to wait to do it. In fact, Angel Correa didn't give Madrid the lead until after the hour mark at the Vicente Calderon.
The goal put Atletico on top, at least temporarily. But for Correa, it also meant he maintained his run as the deadliest marksman from off the bench in Spain's top flight this season.
OptaJose provided details:
Yet Correa still needed some luck to keep his streak going, as Spanish source AS described:
A bizarre and slightly unsavoury incident before the goal marred the game. It came just prior to the half-time break and involved a promising Malaga counter-attack being interrupted when another ball was thrown onto the pitch, seemingly at first glance, from the Atletico bench.
The ensuing chaos ended with Simeone sent to the stands.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Guillem Balague explained what went on for the station's broadcast of the game:
AS also offered information on the events:
But once they get a goal, Atleti rarely let a lead slip. They didn't here thanks to yet another miserly and disciplined showing at the back.
The midfield, led by resilient skipper Gabi, gave Malaga no room in the middle, while a rugged back four snuffed out even a hint of a chance.
But while those in the outfield stayed stubborn, the Guardian's Sid Lowe felt the man between the posts also deserved some credit:
Slovenian stopper Jan Oblak did indeed do what he needed to do with a series of routine stops inside the final 10 minutes to preserve three more precious points for Ateltico's title chase.
Their odds stand at 5-1 for the title.
It needed a heroic effort from Bale to drag Los Blancos out of trouble against Rayo. The home side went two up inside the opening 15 minutes when Adrian Embarba and Miku struck.
But Bale reduced the arrears with a well-placed header. It gave him a personal-best mark in Europe, according to OptaJose:
Winger Lucas Vazquez drew Los Merengues level, before Bale completed the job.
It's been something of a stop-start campaign for the Welshman, as injuries have mounted. Yet despite his issues, Bale has been deadly when fit, a fact reflected by these numbers from Squawka:
The only downer for Los Blancos was seeing centre-forward Karim Benzema leave the pitch due to injury in the first half, per Spanish publication AS.
With attacking talisman Ronaldo missing out today, per Reuters (h/t the Guardian), manager Zinedine Zidane could have limited options for the upcoming UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg against Premier League side Manchester City.
Still, Zidane's team remain a healthy bet for the domestic title at 6-1.
But both teams from Madrid were disappointed by day's end after watching Barcelona destroy Gijon. Odds of 1-3 show exactly what this win has done for Barca's title credentials.
The leaders took advantage of three penalties, with two looking pretty soft, to fire six goals. Four came from the boot of Luis Suarez, repeating the feat he managed in the recent 8-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna.
The Uruguayan has now set a record in Spain's top flight, according to MisterChip (English):
Lionel Messi had opened the scoring with a first-half header. His goal maintained his stunning career scoring run in the division, something detailed by Sky Sports Revista de La Liga:
"Lionel Messi's record in the last 7 seasons is quite incredible.

Neymar added another from the spot, one of three penalties Barca converted, with two won by the Brazilian himself. Kieran Canning of Agence France Presse was far from impressed with one particular decision:
But Barca took full advantage of any breaks they may have received, and in the process, sent out a warning to Real and Atletico that it will require something pretty special to take the title from the Camp Nou this season.
