EPL Table: 2016 Week 34 Top Scorers After Sunday's Premier League Scores

Jamie Vardy moved level at the top of the Premier League scoring charts on Sunday—before being sent off—netting the game's opener in Leicester City's dramatic 2-2 draw with West Ham United on Sunday. The Foxes took a small step closer to their first-ever top-flight success, with their point moving them eight points away from the closest challengers, Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester City's Sergio Aguero is now one goal behind the leaders after he netted a sublime hat-trick in the 3-0 win over Chelsea on Saturday. The Argentina international produced a stunning display to net a trio of goals at Stamford Bridge and move his side up to third place in the table.

His treble of strikes, which moved him onto 21 goals for the season, puts him one behind England duo Vardy and Spurs' Harry Kane in the battle for coveted golden boot, however, Kane will have the opportunity to move away from the chasing pack when his side travel north to face Stoke City on Monday evening.

Vardy Strikes Early but Sees Red

It was a goal that perfectly encapsulated Leicester's counter-attacking ability. In just a matter of seconds from Kasper Schmeichel holding the ball within his grasp, Vardy was charging down the by-line, celebrating his 22nd strike of a memorable Premier League campaign. 

A long throw by the Dane caught out the West Ham midfield, as fellow star man Riyad Mahrez picked up possession of the loose ball on the right flank, just crossing the halfway line. The Algerian winger darted inside before playing a perfectly timed pass to N'Golo Kante, who had charged upfield following the Hammers' attacking corner. 

The newly capped France international then found Vardy lingering dangerously on the lip of the box for the former non-league attacker to control with one touch before firing low into the bottom corner. Claudio Ranieri's side have been destroying teams week in, week out in the Premier League this campaign with their bursts of speed, and this was a prime example of that in full effect. 

Vardy once again displayed an air of calmness when gathering possession inside the opponent's box—so often the area of the pitch where even the most talented of professionals can make the most clumsy of errors.

The goal put his title-challenging side ahead and one step closer to a famous and historic league triumph against adversity and the big-spending modern-day elite. However, he will be forced to sit out his team's next fixture against Swansea City next Sunday after being shown a red card.

The Daily Telegraph chief sports writer Paul Hayward was unsure over the decision to send Vardy off for diving:

Booked before the break for a late challenge of Cheikhou Kouyate, the England striker was given his marching orders after referee Graham Moss decided that Vardy had taken a tumble in the area without due need and cautioned Vardy for the second time.

The Foxes looked set for a defeat when Andy Carroll and Aaron Cresswell netted late on, but Leonardo Ulloa popped up with a 90th-minute penalty to secure a share of the spoils at King Power Stadium.

Aguero Strikes Fear into Rivals

Manchester City moved to within five points of second-placed Tottenham with a comprehensive 3-0 battering of defending champions Chelsea on Saturday. 

Aguero was the star of the show in west London as he netted with two emphatic finishes before making up for his UEFA Champions League penalty miss against Paris Saint-Germain by sealing all three points with a late spot-kick.

Per Eurosport, Aguero is the top-performing striker in England following the New Year and has now netted 12 times in 2016. However, the attacker needed a shade of luck to tuck away his opener after his 20-yard strike deflected off the leg of Blues defender Gary Cahill before finding its way past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. 

His second was certainly deserved. Shortly following the interval, Aguero burst through on goal before clipping his effort over Belgium's Courtois and into the far corner.

For his third of the day, the former Atletico Madrid player was forced to beat a different stopper after Asmir Begovic was brought on following the red card to their regular No. 1.

But the change made no difference, as Aguero calmly slotted his effort into the bottom corner to move him to within just one strike of Vardy and Kane at the top of the charts.

Spurs' hitman has the chance to reaffirm his place as the league's sharpest marksman when Mauricio Pochettino's men travel to the Britannia Stadium on Monday, searching for goals and points in order to close down leaders Leicester at the summit.
