La Liga Results 2016: Scores, Odds, Updated Table After Saturday Week 32 Matches

Tom SunderlandApr 9, 2016

Atletico Madrid's sit just three points off La Liga leaders Barcelona after the Blaugrana suffered a 1-0 defeat at Real Sociedad on Saturday, while Los Rojiblancos enjoyed a 3-1 comeback win over Espanyol.

Teenage starlet Mikel Oyarzabal netted the sole goal at Anoeta Stadium as La Real collected a fourth successive home league win over Barca, while Fernando Torres, Antoine Griezmann and Koke led Atleti to victory.

Los Rojiblancos were under pressure to perform, too, after rivals Real Madrid swept Eibar to one side with a 4-0 demolition earlier on Saturday, where Cristiano Ronaldo scored one goal and notched two assists in a star outing.

Recap

As far as Barcelona's standards go, the club may be seen as being in a state of free-fall at present, having now failed to win in their last three Primera Division games and losing their last two in succession.

An El Clasico defeat at home to Real Madrid was followed up with defeat at Anoeta, where Oyarzabal stunned the visitors with a fifth-minute header after escaping Gerard Pique's mark. Sky Sports Statto illustrated the enormity of this poor run from Barca:

Real Sociedad have proven themselves to be Barca's kryptonite in recent years, it seems, and Goal's Ben Hayward outlined just how successful Eusebio Sacristan's outfit have been against the league leaders of late:

Barca boss Luis Enrique opted to make several key changes to his team and left the likes of Andres Iniesta, Jordi Alba and Ivan Rakitic on his bench in place of Arda Turan, Rafinha and Sergi Roberto, respectively.

The suspension of Luis Suarez also created a glaring void up front that Munir El Haddadi couldn't fill, and attention now turns to Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Atletico.

Messi was muted at Real Sociedad on Saturday.

Espanyol made their best attempt at denting Atleti's title bid at Estadi Cornella El-Prat on Saturday, but the iron will of manager Diego Simeone's men proved indomitable after they hit back in major fashion to return to second spot.

Pape Diop opened the scoring with a header after 29 minutes, and ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan confirmed it was Torres' runner who had slipped through his defences to ghost in front of goal:

But the on-loan Milan striker made up for his error just six minutes later, crossing in for Koke to head in Atletico's nail in the coffin after Griezmann initially put the visitors ahead with his 58th-minute strike.

As Yahoo's Andrew Gaffney pointed out, boyhood club figure Torres is impressing at just the right time for Atletico as his Milan contract winds to an end, preparing for free agency this summer:

Earlier in the day, a Ronaldo-inspired Real performance paved the way for a 4-0 thumping of struggling Eibar, who are now eight games without a win and have lost six of those outings.

James Rodriguez and Lucas Vazquez put Los Merengues 2-0 up after just 18 minutes, and Ronaldo clinched another marvellous career record by bagging his 30th goal of the season, per Eurosport:

Jese Rodriguez added the fourth for Real, but manager Zinedine Zidane may have been concerned by the fact all four goals were grabbed in the first 39 minutes, with no additions after that.

For many, a 4-0 win might be pleasing enough, but some Madridistas may be left wondering where the truly ruthless touch was from their side, who could have done so much more damage.

Real Betis completed Saturday's slate with a 1-0 defeat of struggling Levante, who remain five points shy of safety after Castro scored in the 81st minute to seal three points.

Betis make the leap up to 12th in the standings as a result, having lost their three previous matches on the trot, and their hopes of a top-half finish look to be back on track.
