Borussia Dortmund vs. Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp Threatens TV Station over KloppCam

Christopher SimpsonApr 6, 2016

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested he may boycott German television station Sport1 due to their plan to use a "KloppCam" during the Reds' game with his former side, Borussia Dortmund, on Thursday.

According to Spencer Brown for the MailOnline, the broadcaster will have a camera dedicated solely to the German during the match, and he isn't overly impressed with the idea:

"

That's the first time I have heard about it. You see how crazy the world is?

They can't put a camera in my face. I know the way in Dortmundoff the bus, into the dressing room and no-one allowed in, only us. Then we go out, stairs down, through the tunnel, into the stadium. It is always like this. It is loud, it is a big crowd and for the players everything is like it always is and that is the most important thing.

I don't play. If someone is silly enough to want to see my face for 90 minutes during a game I cannot change the world.

I can't believe it is like this but if it is true I have to think about whether I will really talk with this television station in my life again. I'm pretty sure I will not, if I don't have to.

Maybe they will think about that because I have done a few interviews with them until now. But that's how it is. I know I am only one part of the game but if people around me act differently I can't change that and I don't care about it.

Per Brown, it is not the first time Klopp has received such treatment, with BT Sport using a similar idea for his first game in charge of the club against Tottenham Hotspur in October.

Sport1 executive director Dirc Seemann said: "During the match we'll offer our users on Sport1.de a Klopp live cam. It will be on him for 90 minutes, as a special for his homecoming. Once [Klopp] gets to the Westfalenstadion in the team bus we'll have our cameras on him."

Klopp was his usual self during the press conference, though, and provided yet another memorable quote as BT Sport Football revealed:

His return to Dortmund after a successful seven-year spell at the club, where he won back-to-back Bundesliga titles and guided them to the 2013 UEFA Champions League final, has been the focus of attention since the draw was made.

The Times' Tony Barrett gave further insight into the reception Klopp has received:

His Liverpool side face an enormous task at Signal Iduna Park against a Dortmund team that are yet to lose in 2016 and have racked up over 100 goals in all competitions.

Per Sky Sports News HQ, Klopp acknowledged as much, but despite BVB being one of the favourites to win the UEFA Europa League outright, he believes Liverpool can progress:

Key to their chances will be their ability to nullify the hosts' attacking threat—easier said than done when the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Shinji Kagawa are all enjoying fine campaigns.

Dortmund are also strong defensively and key centre-back pairing Mats Hummels and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, as well as holding midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, have been rested ahead of the clash as Klopp noted in the video above.

Liverpool can still cause problems for their opponents, though, with Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge all able to give BVB's defence food for thought.

As for Klopp, his return to his beloved Dortmund and the reverential reception he'll receive on Thursday night will make the occasion an emotional one.

The 48-year-old appears relaxed in the circumstances and has the experience to put his feelings aside over the course of the match.

Klopp is one of the most energetic and entertaining managers to watch on the touchline, and his reactions to what is happening on the pitch add an extra layer of interest to the match, but the game itself promises to be a thrilling encounter in its own right.
