Christopher SimpsonApr 6, 2016

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is set for an emotional return to Borussia Dortmund on Thursday, when he brings his new side to the Westfalenstadion for the first leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final.

The Reds will be hoping to become the first team to beat BVB in 2016, or at least come away with a positive result to build on for the return leg at Anfield.

Meanwhile, holders Sevilla will travel to La Liga rivals Athletic Club Bilbao as they seek to win the competition for the third year in a row, Sporting Braga will host Shakhtar Donetsk, and Villarreal welcome Sparta Prague to El Madrigal.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Liverpool

All eyes will be on Klopp on Thursday, when he returns to the club he left last summer after seven years in charge.

BT Sport Football's Andy Brassell believes he is still sorely missed by BVB fans despite their excellent campaign thus far under Thomas Tuchel:

Klopp has stoked the fires ahead of the match by suggesting Liverpool are a bigger club than Dortmund.

He told Sport1 (h/t DW Sports' Stefan Bienkowski): "This club is bigger, I have to say. Perhaps a few people don't want to hear that, but there are a few extra departments here and as a manager, you are fully involved."

The German also believes he might struggle with the atmosphere amid the reunion—a problem he does not anticipate the home side's players will have:

"

Wherever I go, I normally find it very easy to shut out all of the surrounding noise. This could be very difficult for me this time because I built good relationships with a lot of people. ...

If I know the Dortmund players well enough, I know they can block out any emotions. Mats Hummels put it nicely. He said we will welcome each other warmly, genuinely and that we will say goodbye warmly and genuinely, and for the 90 minutes in between he will get on my nerves. Our shared history is so great that it can't be affected by a game.

"

Indeed, it's on the pitch where this game will be won or lost, and the hosts will be confident of taking a win into the second leg.

Per football journalist Alex Chaffer, BVB have welcomed the return of several key players at the back, so the Reds can expect to face a strong team:

Dortmund also boast two of the Bundesliga's best attacking players this season, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The former has chipped in with 36 goals and 11 assists in all competitions this year, while the latter has 20 and 26, respectively.

WhoScored.com highlighted Mkhitaryan's outstanding chance creation in the Bundesliga:

If Liverpool are to progress, they'll need to keep both players quiet—no mean feat for a team who have rarely inspired confidence at the back this season.

The Reds also have the ability to hurt their opponents if the likes of Philippe Coutinho can perform well, as he did on Saturday, per Virgin Media:

Unlike Tottenham Hotspur in the last round, Liverpool will be going all out on Thursday. Dortmund are the better side and should come out on top, but the Reds have enough about them to grab a vital away goal and set up a thrilling second leg.

Athletic Bilbao vs. Sevilla

Like Dortmund, Athletic possess one of the most in-form front men in Europe this season in Aritz Aduriz, who is enjoying something of a renaissance at the age of 35.

The Spaniard has bagged 31 goals and 10 assists in all competitions this season, and his form earned him just his second call-up to the national side in the recent international break, in which he duly scored.

After netting three times and producing an assist, Aduriz was awarded La Liga's Player of the Month gong, per Squawka News:

In February, he provided one of the goals of the tournament in the Europa League with this unbelievable volley, per BT Sport Football:

With him in such outstanding form, Los Leones will be hoping he can fire them to glory in the competition they finished runners-up in four years ago.

In their way stand Sevilla, who have made the tournament their own in recent years.

They have plenty of attacking talent themselves in the likes of Yevhen Konoplyanka and Kevin Gameiro, while Grzegorz Krychowiak adds steel in midfieldthe Pole played a starring role in keeping Aduriz at bay during their 2-0 win over Athletic in January.

This all-Spanish tie could be one of the games of the round with both teams getting on the scoresheet.
